NEW - Sony XB 1000 - no bass?

Hey guys :)

I bought myself the XB 1000 plus the FiiO E9 Amplifier.

I just have a problem.. i can't feel the bass?

Tbh they definately have it.

Just i need to blast up the volume really high to feel it.. but it's actually too high and will cause damage to my ears.

On that track i can feel it really well.. and i do want to get in that direction with lower volumes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaJfYRpNpKc

Do you know what the matter is?

Do they need burn in with low frequencies?

Did i do something wrong?

I don't know but i feel like sending them back.. i can listen to some electronic music on my Steelseries Siberia with the amplifier and it will kinda sound better than on the XB 1000.. no jokes.

If you're solely in it for 'feeling' the bass, you've picked the wrong medium to listen to your music through.  Get speakers instead.

To get enough pressure buildup to cause for lots of physical feeling calls for lots of sound pressure.  The more the sound pressure, the easier the chance of you losing your hearing.  That particular song has plenty of bass, but it's no secret that youtube more or less kills bass impact and body.

My guess?  I bet you're used to listening to car subwoofers.  But to say you can hear the bass but not feel it and say there's no bass?  That's just silly.

No that's not what i meant.

I can hear the bass there really well.

I have actually the same amount of bass on my Steelseries Siberia gaming headset for roughly 80€ but with clearer highs.

The thing is that the XB 1000 does have the bass level i actually like.. just on a too loud volume.. even than the highs are pretty dominating.

I used youtube just to demonstrate it.. i don't listen to my music on youtube.

In the end i could just use my Siberias (gaming headset..) + the FiiO E9 to get the same bass level with clearer highs and slightly more mids if you can say so.

You know that's kinda disappointing buying XB 1000s and having better sound on the gaming headset.. which isn't even meant to be a bass machine.

That is disappointing indeed.

The XB1000 was created to provide real bass, not artificial bass like some basshead headphones, but its true, for really make shining the xb1000, you must listen loud and just with few genres of music.

But with the right amp and the right music, the XB1000 can be really excellent, but a so bad all rounder.

There are several headphones out there that provide bass you can feel in your head better than XB1000 though without having to go crazy on volume... XB1000 is less bassy than its smaller brothers on purpose.

I've had the XB 1000 for a few months and think they deliver the low end very well. It depends on your expectations and source. If you are disappointed you should send them back or sell them here. I believe a headphone should be simply be accurate and deliver what's there. DVDRey and TMRaven make good points. I don't expect the same effect from 70mm headphones that I get from my home theater.  I think the whole "XB" thing is mostly marketing hype. It seems to me that when you engineer a headphone to place emphasis on a certain frequency range, you end up with something like the Beats Solos....kind of muddy depending on what you are listening to.  I bought the XBs because they had big drivers, good specs,  people seemed to recommend them highly, and I found what I thought was a very good deal. My quibble with the XB 1000 is more in the high mid range/low high range where I'm hearing sibilance. Sorry they didn't work out for you.

I guess the XB1000's give a more refined and controlled bass, and probably you are looking for crazy bass.

what sound device are you using?

Ipod?

The XB1000 produce low bass that's much more accurate than any cans I've auditioned.  The bass is not like a pair of 15" subs in your car's trunk.  It's more like a well tuned nightclub.  It goes low without distortion with the right amp.  I would try a neutral high current amp before dismissing the XB1000.

DjAmTraX> When speaking of bass, have you ever tried the M-Audio Q40 ? I'd be very curious how you'd find the bassresponse as you've got quite some good collection to compare to. For me it's so far the headphone that has the biggest quantity vs most accurate bass response ratio I've tried. They thump and extend extremely well but still sound so accurate, controlled, free from midrange bass bleed and has a quite even focus between mid and subbass etc. Quantity wise we're speaking of something in the middle between Denon D7000 and XB500.

I was disappointed in the XB1000 also and sold it on. I found the XB700 and D7000 provided more visceral sub-bass.

you should listen to it, that just has perfect bass with nice impact whitout any distortion,

Yea I'm also looking forward to getting the XB1000 [and a FiioE11 along with a FLAC portable Source], I've got the 700 atm [with a FiioE6 and 320k .mp3] and I'm listening to alot of Liquid Funk, so deep controlled Bass is my aim.

As far as feeling it goes, your ears might not be attuned to hearing and or feeling the really sub sonic frequencies, you might not be  to identifying the presence bass and sub bass have, I played Bass Guitar for 4-5 years so I have a nack for picking up on those low end sounds and really tuning in to them.

There is a clear difference between BOOMING bass and Smooth Deep Controlled bass, and I prefer the latter! Still though I have plenty of friends who love that big boom, so what ever raises the hair on the back of your neck ;3
