The W3 does not need to be amped. It probably has the most bass I've heard in a BA and has the wow factor.

Yeah, indeed there is a lot bass. Too much for me, though.

I'm using the IE80 and MG7 at the moment while my Merlin is getting fixed, might work for you as well if you decide against the SM3v2 and W3 combo.

i will pick up the mg7 in addition to o ne of the others. leaning towards w3 has even though the sm3 sounds like it may be slighty better, it is roughly $130 more than w3, and although price is not huge concern (within reason), i have a hard time beleiving it is worth that much more. still deciding tho, also gonna check out w4 and the westone 3x or whatever it is called. droppped the ie80 and jvc 700 due to isolation, as primary use is in during weight lifting, and there is usually a zumba class at same time, and while fun to watch, the music sucks and is loud

The Westone 4s are fairly basslight and won't satisfy you if you're a basshead. They are also very different from the Westone 3's sound signature. It's called the "UM3x", they also aren't basshead IEMs.

yep, thats what ive found in my research also. seems odd, as i thought the w4 had 2 bass drivers, yet it has been described as tame. def down to w3 and sm3, tough call here. what are ur thoughts on sm3?? sm3 seem to be more well rounded, more quality bass where the w3 are cheaper, more "fun", and seem to be far ahead in quality build, but more quantity bass, and good quality also. will be used mainly with poweramp on smsung with voodoo control if thatt helps at all

Yeah, I wonder too. But those 2 bass drivers does certainly make it sound a little dark, but not bassy. In my opinion, the Westone 3s are better, they have a lot of bass while being bright sounding, SM3 on the other hand is very dark sounding, which highs doesn't shine with it. If you're a basshead, the Westone 3s will fit the bill very well. There isn't a point spending more on something you prefer less.
