I have HD650 as my go to phone, I also owned K701/K702 twice since once in a while I am in the mood of some analytical detailed sound. The thing I like about K701/2 is the wide sound stage, analytical, balanced and detailed sound with sweet mids. However, it is really cold and dry and bass quantity is lacking. I wonder if any phone out there is like a warm K701 with more bass.

I have tried DT880, it may have more bass, but it is still not as warm as I like, and the mids are a little recessed.

I read about SRH840, should be warmer than K701, and well balanced, but the soundstage is not good.

AD700/AD900 are very similar to K701 with good soundstage, the bass is lacking, are they warmer than K701?

Any other suggestions? Thanks a lot!

I just read a few post on K550, one post said the K550 is not as warm as DT880, if that's the case, then it is not I am looking for, hope to get more opinions on these.

I heard that newer version of M50 is more neutral and less V shaped than old version. Can anyone confirm this? I know the soundstage probably sucks, but if I cannot find an ideal phone, I can compromise.

How about AD700? not as refined as K701 and not bassy as well, but if it is warmer than K701, I will consider it.

Senn HD580 ,that production between 1993-1995 (flat nameplate)

the mids is intimacy, enthusiasm lows, good clarity

The later 580 don't have these magic, they are hd600 downgraded version actually, the sound is harsh & veiled.

The HD560 Ovation is even better (not HD560-II)

560 has the most sweat mids, most liquid sounding, most musical sound in dynamic headphones, high transparency

Just like their electrostatic headphones,

The old 580 & 560 are the best Sennheiser dynamic headphones ever.

But becareful, once you heard them, most other headphone will sound mediocre, lifeless to you.

560 & 580 are made by some of the very best sound designers & crafters.

The new version isn't really neutral, and sincerely the M50 is a downgrade in comparison with the headphones in your list, like K701/DT880/HD650/AD900...

The K550 is more warm than cold, lol. I never found the DT880 05 very warm, balanced and analytical yes, but warm... If i remember correctly, the K550 is more warm than the DT880 05, but its already 4 or 5 years ago. In any case if you can try the K550 before purchase, lol.

If you want warm and analytical with accurate bass, then you're looking for the T70p (not T70).

EDIT: Anybody coming off the HD650 will still consider these bright. In which case you may need to look at Ultrasones or the HD598, which is warm and still more detailed than the HD650.

Really hard to call any of the cans you mentioned warm, except for the HD650.  DT880 and K701 are on the bright side of neutral.  You should try for the HE-500 if it is within your budget.  Really hard to find a headphone with those aspects at the ~$300 range.

Maybe check out the HE-400 although it barely came out.
