Stax 007 mk-1

After using Lambda Signatures for years I just got a used O2 and it is excellent. I am contemplating the next equipment upgrade currently using the following:

Cyrus CD8x as transport

Cyrus DAC-XP as dac

Stax SRM-T1

power cable main Nordost Valhalla with wireworld as individual unit cables

Tara Labs ZERO Edge as digital cable

Nordost Valhalla IC

Current plan is to replace the SRM-T1, ideally with an SRM-T2! As this will be virtually impossible, however, thinking instead the SRM-007ta. Anyone having a view on whether this would be the right place to start and is the SRM-007ta powerful enough to drive the O2s?

SRM-007ta is gonna be pretty much the same as the T1, just way more expensive.  Get a 727/717/323.

If budget is a concern the SRM-323s is recommended.

Hi Charliex - budget is not a real issue and on that basis where should I go?

Thanks for the advice, but why exactly is it that many recommend the 717 over the newer version (I assume) of the same being the 727?

N3rdling, thanks for the advice but would prefer stay with tube over solid state. If the t1 is almost as good as the 007ta, where does the srm-006t fit into the equation?  Brgds

Thanks got it now and tons of "modded" comments from Spritzer.

Then consider, and not necessarily in order: SRM-717, SRM-727, KGSSHV,  BHSE, Hybrid eXStatA

You certainly got that right, a  .  does appear to be a point.

Put into order it would look like this: 1) BHSE or KGSSHV; 2) used KGSS; 3) used SRM-717; 4) SRM-727 modded. Oups, I forgot one of them!

PS. This just reflects the opinions of a majority of people posting in Stax related threads.

The 717 and 727 use very different circuits, the 717 is essentially a Stax version of the KGSS but the 727 is a Stax design more in line with the SRM-1 Mk2 and SRA-14S lineage.

The 007t amps are just T1's with the output stages doubled up.  Not enough improvement to warrant the extra cost since the limiting factor is always the 6CG7 tube.  Modify the amp to take ECC99's or 6S4A's and then it could be a worthwhile improvement.

Spritzer - many thx. When you say modify the amp you mean modify My current T1, right? If so any of the two tube types you recommend better than the other?    Brads

Staxi are you comfortable using a soldering iron and working with high voltages? If not I would look other places than modifying amps, unless you know someone who can do it for you.

What about the 600LTD? is it enough powerful to drive them?
