Band promotes legal copying of their music

Okay, that is very cool.
I like the idea that they are including the blanks with the same label as the original. Of course I would be afraid to use those copies like I do my normal copies of CDs. I wouldn't want to scratch up some limited edition blank CD in my car player. I don't make copies to give away. I make copies to save the originals from the perils of travel.

Given that pressed CDs are almost as cheap as blanks, this sounds a bit gimmicky to me -- why not just include copies of the original in the box?

Can anyone tell me anything about the music the band puts out?

They seem to be Electronica, but I'm not sure.

Nice statement, but it seems to mostly be a PR ploy. All in all, I like it a lot better than the Mettalica stance of "We jail our fans."

i think it's a cool idea. very interesting anyway. of course it's a gimmick to get you to buy their records--but perhaps the members do mean what they say too. i guess it's kinda like saying you get 3 licenses for the price of one... but i don't think it's the greatest idea for incraesing sales.

i don't think the problem is with people just plain copying CDs.... the biggest problem is with the mass distribution of MP3's and other file formats on the net.

--also, these copied CD's would not give people an incentive to buy the real CD's after the fact. i mean, after all, they already got the CD in their hands. i know if someone gave me the copy, then i would feel i already have a legal version... and i would never go out to buy the real thing.

i think a better approach is to include a compressed, OFFICIAL, mp3 with their official copyright inside. then they can hope to get people to buy the real CDs after people hear the MP3....... heh he, hope their music is good then!

hmm...............actually, i think that's a great idea too. i think i'll start doing that from now on! dang i'm smart! --alright, from now on, all my CDs will be mixed-mode CD's with audio and MP3's on the same disc. sounds good? i think it'll be cool.

Well, they might want the included DVD. I know I'm a sucker for extra DVDs included with CDs.

That's a good idea indeed. I would suggest two mp3 versions, on 128kbps and 320kbps. The user would have the small versions on small capacity players and the longer one for those with bigger capabilities, PC, or home use.

Also, there could be other formats, like Ogg, Monkey or whatever. What do you think?

I'm a sucker for PR stunts and those who don't mind music sharing. I wave them around when people say that all music sharing hurts all artists. I'll probably even buy their CDs because they're going against the grain. Seriously cool. Now what kind of music do they have again?

Didn't search in Member's Lounge when I posted my thread about them in Music. Nothing of interest there to see, so don't bother. But anyway...

I'd describe them as techno metal. Lotsa synth sounds, but some good, solid guitar work, too. And I love the vocals, they're growling, yet clear. Also, the sound quality is superb. And that was just on the MP3's available from their site.

I just put an order in through Head-Fi's Amazon link; just under $20 with shipping. Unfortunately, it doesn't get here 'till March due to it being an Import. Ah well. I've got two Apocalyptica albums (Plays Metallica by 4 Cellos, and Inquisition Symphony) coming real soon now to keep me occupied.

And finally, yes, I love the idea of the blank CD's included. It's legal, and it might just show the RIAA something. I doubt it, though, since it's just one artist, and only the first 5000 (?) CD's are having this treatment. But still, it's a step in the right direction. Oh, and yes, I love DVD's included with CD's too. Methinks they tell you something more about the band. Or give you high definition audio, if you've got a decent DVDP.
