Want a closed circumaural headphone... - Page 2

Yeah the W1000 is pricy, I have heard them before and don't find them to be good. The cheaper Sennheiser, AKG and Beyerdynamic are easily better to my ears. In fact I was never impressed by any of the AT I tried, the one that I liked most is probably the ESW9, which was good by portable standard. But since you guys praised the W1000, I'll try to re listen to them and see if I got it wrong. I don't remember what were fed to them when I tried them.

I think the SRH840 will be at least close to what I am looking for. The SRH940 and K550 will need to be judged first by my ears.

I didn't like the Denon D2000. I read that the D5000 has a flatter frequency response, but never heard them. It is also pricy.

The W1000 is different sounding from the current W1000x. The W1000x is much much better IMO.

I was wondering which they were talking about. The W1000X has been around long enough that it's usually what people are talking about now. Hardly anyone talks about the W1000 anymore and even the W5000 is not as popular anymore.

I think I'm going for the AKG K550 myself if my roommates don't come up with some lame excuse why they need to borrow some money from my next check. Which means I'm ordering it in a week.

But then I read more reviews and some say the mids are slow and somewhat muddy so I'm on the fence. I love the design though. I really want Sony SA5000 but everyone says they really need top notch amplification.. CharterOak SP-1/GMP 450 Pro seems like one of the best all around choices for the sound sig I'm looking for but the design is...well...a bit boring.

May be that's why, what I heard was the W1000, not the W1000X.

I auditioned a few headphones:

SRH940 - I think it is quite impressive. It feels like a DT880 that has its frequency response straightened up. Also reminds me of my ER-4P, but a full size headphone version. My only complaint is the treble can get a little sharp.

SRH840 - Similar to the 940, but with more mid bass and less detail. I think I prefer the 940.

Then the shop told me that they have promotion for the Beyers. This is where it gets complicated. I was impressed with the DT150 and DT250. They have nice midrange too, but in different ways. Their treble is less sharp, but their frequency extension on both end seems to be less than the Shures. They are about half the price of the SRH940. I didn't ask, but I suspect the DT880 is the same price too. It is not what I am looking for but I have respect for its technical abilities. I hope I can sleep tonight. :D

A great unknown could be TakStar PRO80.

+1 on the FA-003s. Much better than they have a right to be at the price, and ridiculously easy to drive!

So, I found this:

http://mp4nation.net/catalog/brainwavz-hm5-studio-monitor-headphones-preorder-p-663.html

I also found this:

http://www.mwave.com.au/sku-23030410-Professional_Monitor_Headphones

But this worries me as it has a different sensitivity rating than the FA-003/HM5.

You guys have any better source?
