Focal Bird - will it bring the hipsters over the dark side of audiophilia ?

Focal resellers are having an absolute field day over the fact that a (relatively) cheap all-in-one got such a rave review from Chris Martens at TAS:

I know - lies, damned lies and mag reviews - but lets put ourselves in the position of your typical Bose customer with around a thousand dollars to spend on a 'lifestyle system'. Would they be happy with a unit like this and the choice of 3 different sets of speakers,  or something that matches their new ergonomic furniture ?

Granted, you can have something from Peachtree or Oppo or <insert DAC here> for that money, but it probably wont have a (speaker) amp and speakers.

Having heard Focal speakers on a number of occasions and making a tough decision in the past between Dynaudio and Focal (ultimately chose Dynaudio) for a car system, I am extremely confident in saying that this system will obliterate anything Bose has to offer.  The option of choosing between three different size speakers is terrific.  If they strategically advertise in the same magazines that Bose does, they might have a good shot at those potential Bose customers.

Good point - marketing is everything. Focal is seen as seriously high-end here, mainly because the local distributor tends to push the Utopia range of massive (and massively expensive) floorstanders - I couldnt believe the price on this all-in-one, even with the most expensive of the speaker options. No shortage of positive reviews - just need to have them translated for 'lifestyle' consumers ;)
