Need advice on the best input option to DacMagic Plus

Thread Starter

I am currently using a USB cable from my laptop to DacMagic Plus, but I am convinced that using an optical cable would be better.

As it is a laptop I can't upgrade the internal sound card, but could add an external sound card.

However, as this would have to be attached by USB, would this be better than a USB cable straight to the DAC?

The DAC is upsampling to 24-bit/384kHz and the USB output from the laptop has been set at 24-bit/96kHz, which is the highest output possible. The output is XLR to my KRKs.

If an external sound card would be better, do you have any recommendations?

I had a look at the creative X-Fi HD (http://uk.store.creative.com/sound-blaster/sound-blaster-x-fi-hd/1-19829.aspx) but wasn't sure if it was applicable.

Thanks

Connected straight to the laptop is the best option, also you shouldn't upsample set the dac and pc to the music files native bitrate.
