Help me pick out some new cans

Thread Starter

I'm looking to spend about $300 at the most. Currently I use some HD280's, which while being very nice aren't that great for use beyond studio monitoring, and I'm looking for something more general purpose now. They'll mostly be used at my computer listening to music and playing games (though I already have M-Audio AV40 speakers which are nice enough) for times when I don't want to disturb other people in my home. Other than that they'll be used a lot with an iPod and sometimes hooked up to my home theater receiver.

Tell me what your favorite set is in around that price range, and if they require an amp to get good power out of, then recommending a modestly priced headphone amp would be much appreciated.

Thank you

There are two particular pairs I have been looking at lately, one being the Shure SRH840 and the others Audio-Technia ATH-M50S.

What else are you looking for?  Open or closed, a particular sound signature, or something else?

I think the SRH840 ll be better for you but the 840 is less efficient than the M50 and with an ipod, its not the best choice, but concerning SQ, the SRH840 is a step up from M50.

With 300$ you have the choice.

however its a little bass light for my taste, compared to the pro 900's that I very love as well. BASS HEADS.:D
