As far as the Sennheiser's are the MX271 & MX370 also good or at least decent for earbuds?  I also recently saw a Sennheiser MX365 which I think may be new as I did not find much information about it.  I wondered though if the MX365 was maybe replacing one of their other earbuds?  Thanks.

I haven't tried the MX271 or MX370, but the MX270 is very similar to the MX580. It's not quite as refined, smooth, or detailed, but it does retain the MX580's airiness and is surprisingly more dynamic.

As far as I know, the MX365 seems like a more direct replacement to the MX360. The latter sounded like a bassier version of the old MX400/500. Not sure about the MX365.

Just watch Ebay and Yahoo Auction Japan. Oldies pop up there once in a while, at least Sony and Aiwa earbuds. They are however a bit expensive nowadays, but they have become collectors items.

The comment was more about the price than the accessibility. redface.gif

I'm not buying ¥5500 earbuds for $126!

Well, being out of production for 15 years do make them rare, and then you are not paying for SQ, but for a collector's item. A pair of Aiwa HP-V99 (originally retailed for 10.000 yen) was sold for close to $500 on Ebay a while ago! I really wanted those and bid up to $200. I suppose that unless I am lucky in finding a pair for a low price, I have to be prepared to go up to $500 for that collector's item.

But heck, better that than a pair of Beats!

The Sony E888 has midrange detail much greater than the MX580. I wonder how it compares to the MX980 and MX880.

The annoying thing is that there are so many fakes, and the large audio dealers don't have them, just the small dealers who specialize in Japanese imports and discontinued items.

On Sony's Japanese homepage, the E888 is still featured. This must mean that it isn't discontinued, or at least not officially in Japan.
