I have a pair of ancient but wonderful Sennheiser Ovation 565's that I used to use with separates. Having downsized I finally sold my last piece - a NAD 3020 amp - last month thinking that I would replace it with a small headphone amp on a budget. After many reviews and looking at these pages I decided on a Project headbox MkII and am currently awaiting delivery. But I am full of doubt for the following reasons;
1 - I have a slight hearing loss in one ear and the NAD had balance (fade) control - the headbox doesn't
2 - I will be using an iPod touch as the source and although it has built in EQ settings I am concerned that I will miss the NAD's Bass and Treble controls which I believe the headbox also excludes
3 - Despite my research I am still not clear if the sound from a budget headphone amp will in fact be significantly better than a reasonable Hi-Fi amp.
Any thoughts, experience and opinions gratefully welcomed.
