Am I ready for the HD800s? - Page 3

I've never heard any Grado (all the way up to GS1000) that was bass 'heavy'.

Never heard any AKG so just going off user thoughts there.

Anyways, I'll tell you what guys, some of you have almost talked me out of the HD800!!!  Maybe that's a good thing, but I was sold in another post when I was asking what was next: Headphones, DAC, or amp, and a user said to "just get the HD800 and be done with it".

From all I've been reading on the site, I don't know if anywhere ever explicitly says it, but IMHO I think some of the people on this forum (not implying any in this thread, only in general) have bad thoughts about the HD800 due to their very high price tag. . .

Just a thought . . .

I basically found it universally rapes rock, pop, electronica, and basically 99% of the popular genres of music because they tend to be badly recorded / mastered.

I would agree with this - which is why I use the HD 800 as a mastering tool.

With modern music everything tends to be compressed to make it "louder" to stand out what played on the radio - and it's getting worse - many modern recordings are clipped which you can clearly see when you view the waveform in a DAW.  I really wish they would stop doing this - even modern remasters now sound worse than the original because of all this. mad.gif

Yup.

I'm just going to get the SR325is for a different sound alongside my HD650s.  lol

No, the HD 800 is streets ahead.

The HD 580 Jubilee are probably my second favourite, roughly equal with the 650.

Only ever heard it the once ~ many on here say it's just a HD600 with a unique FR graph and

 fancy box.

Not to my ears ~ why don't Senn make more of these! I'd actually buy a Senn for a change.

The HD800 isn't as neutral as the HD600 but I agree, it's a superior headphone. Just wondering, do you happen to work for Sennheiser because I am familiar with your name in relation to Sennheiser? confused.gif

The HD 580 Jubilee was a "Limited Edition" of just 5,000 worldwide.

They sold out very quickly and they could not make any more because it was a certified "Limited Edition"  -  so, they just changed the paint job and called it an HD 600.

That's my understanding.

No I don't work for Sennheiser any more, though I did until two years ago.  That's why I have a lot of knowledge and lots of contacts there.

I now run my own recording and consultancy business.

Personally, I find the HD 800 closer to the real thing than the 600 - that's why I prefer the 800 over the 600 as a recording and monitoring tool.

Fair enough. I'm still waiting for Sennheiser to drop the price on the HD800. Even if it means a five year wait, it'll be worth the wait.

There is talk of the HD800 going up again from it's $1499AUD pricing :-)

Who knows, probably to fit the new $1000-ish HD700 into the range accordingly.
