Would like to upgrade from HD580. Suggestions?

I have had my HD580 with stock cable for about 7 years now.  I'd like to upgrade soon and my first thought is that I'd like some deeper bass with more impact/kick.  My second thought is that I would like to retain the 'airiness' of the HD580.  Would the LCD2 Rev.2 be a good choice for this?  What differences can I expect to hear if I go with the LCD?  Any other contenders?

 

Currently I have:

 

Sources: MacBook Pro, SBTouch (FLAC files from NAS, mostly 44.1/16)

DAC: Eximus DP1 (arrives this Friday)

Interconnects: Blue Jeans LC-1 1m

Amp: WA6 (Stock tubes.  Might put this up for sale if the DP1 proves to be a better amp?)

At that range you're probably also looking at D7000 and maybe even Edition 8.

1st choice would probably be the new HD 700.

 

You do know you can improve the 580 by swapping the plastic backs for the ones from the HD 600 or 650, don't you? wink.gif

From what I've heard those mods don't significantly increase the bass though.  And if he wants bass emphasis probably not even an HD-650 would be noticeable enough.

Thanks for the responses.  I will look into the Denon and Ultrasone as well.  Can anyone describe the differences I'll hear going from the HD580 to either one of these or the LCD2 R2?  Ideally I'll be able to audition them all but would like to get people's thoughts if possible.

I think the LCD2 has the best bass out of all the current dynamics/orthodynamics in the market. Maybe not in quantity, but in overall quality. t extends deep, is well textured and has very good impact. All while retaining excellent midrange.
