Im new to this whole high quality headphone stuff and would love some help. Ive been recommended both the hdj 200s and the hfi 780s.

What are your thoughts? any others i should look into ($350 max. Prefer a closed back). I listen to mostly hip-hop and rock.

Thanks!

ps. if you could compare them to beats solos( cause thats all ive owned) that would be awesome!!

Forget the Ultrasone 780's ~ you may wish to consider the 580's but the 780's are not a basshead's friend.

I beg to differ. I purchased the HFI-780 last week and they have ample bass! I listen to Metal and a little Rap and the bass is plenty. What really impresses is the "thump" you get. It's just something I have never heard before. I have the Beyer DT1350 and it too has good bass but lacks the "thump" the HFI-780 gives you. I have around 25 hours burn in on the Ultrasone and love the sound signature thus far. Apparantly, you need to have on average 200 hours of burn in for things to settle. The HFI-780 sounds just like the DT1350, great bass, great mids, great treble, but what you get extra is the better soundstage and the "thump" impact in bass which makes is very enjoyable. I also read that Ultrasone are the closed Grado of the headphone world and I absolutely agree. I use to have the Grado 325i and the Ultrasone, and Beyer to some degree, sound very similar. It's really in your face, energetic, lively, and detailed. Unlike Sennheiser which I find to have a very dull, boring sound signature. I cannot comment on the Pioneer but wanted to give my feedback on the HFI-780. For me, it has plenty bass and for the price, think it's one of the best at it's price point.

Thanks! are there any physical stores that carry them? i kinda want to try them out but i don't think anyone in San Diego carries them. should i dive in and get them online or should i do some more searching?

I would still love a review of the hdjs.

Thanks guys!

I assume they're comfortable for extended listening? And they are around ear correct?

I have small to medium sized ears and the HFI-780 fit around my ears completely. They are extremely comfortable for me. The pads do get a little hot after a few hours but it's no problem.
