I like to know how many here preordered?  I placed my order yesterday with my headphones guy.  I hope to be one of the peeps to get the first production batch.  Please post here if you preordered or why you haven't.

One thing is for sure given the preliminary impressions..

Second hand prices of the HD650 are either going up or they're going down..

 Let's see what eventuates..

Costs too much. $1000 headphones were unheard of ten years ago and now it seems to be the norm. Prices are only dictated by supply and demand.

Out of curiosity, what are comparable headphones to the HD 700?

It's actually price tiers made by the manufacturer.  The prices they set have nothing to do with actual supply, demand, R&D costs, or costs of production.  The prices are set to give the illusion of premium quality.  They are false prices.  They are creating a market where one was not before.  Every industry does it.

I preordered one myself and one for my neighbor ernie. He too has a stereo system.

Too bad Christmas is over, the low price would have allowed me to buy each family member a pair.

I guess I can use all that money I saved on amps and cables. Will these work with an E5?

I think that is taking it to the extreme. I mean nothing to do with supply, demand, R&D costs, or costs of production? It would be an irrational decision, because if that was so they would also consider pricing it at a loss. And Demand and Supply will certainly have a factor, a firm will never price it's product whilst disregarding demand, otherwise for all they know they could be selling 0 units. They will estimate the amount of demand accordingly to different points in price, and went with $999 as the sweet spot.

I think they priced it as: cost of producing 1 unit + R&D + Brand name . How much your paying for the Brand name is impossible to tell unless you work for Sennheiser, I'd guess at $999 for the HD700, you'll be paying $400 for the Brand name.

The HD800 went UP in price since release due to demand, I think. I'm not paying retail for the HD700 so I'm good. If I don't get a deal, I don't buy.  That's why I don't have Audez or HiFiMan.  Unless someone know of a place to get a deal.

The HD700 will complete my Sennheiser collection.  I currently have HD598, HD600, HD650 & HD800.  I do think my Beyer T1 is KING.

Unless Audeze HQ put on a special that filters down to official retailers then it won't be happening, like the HD800 ~ the 'house' controls the RRP smile.gif

Well, the HIFIMAN HE-500s did drop $200 in price recently, from $899 to $699. Not sure if you see that as a deal but if it competes with LCD-2's sound but is $300 cheaper I'd say that's a good deal in relative terms.
