Sony V600 (Comfort)

My father when I was a kid bought me a pair of Sony V600 headphones. They were amazing but after 5 years deteriorated and became unusable.

Comfort-wise these headphones are perfect. (My head is very sensitive: I get headaches easily when headphones are too tight; also, these headphones fit around my head and ears perfectly)

I looked at reviews of the V600s and found that many on this forum don't like the sound quality out of V600 (saying the base is distorted). Everyone said the V6's are a much better deal.

Here's my dilemma. I want the highest-sound-quality headphones that are IDENTICAL to the V600 in comfort. I hear that the V6's have a different shape, and I'm wary about buying headphones that won't feel the same. (Also, apparently someone suggested taking some foam out of the drivers to change the way the base sounds).

Let me know what I should do. Thanks!

Please post a picture of what you have so we can see if it's the current V600 or the vintage.

I got them somewhere around 7 years ago (+- 2 years)

You can get a pair of replacement pads for like $5-6 off ebay (not sure if Sony still stock these), I don't know much to do with the torn headband though :D And as a V600 owner I agree that clearing out the driver foam will help improve clarity and soundstage a bit (but don't expect them to sound all-better) :D

I heard the V6 is light and comfortable. And for their sound, it shouldn't hurt to give them a try.

Yeah, what other people consider comfortable might not necessarily be what I like.

As for the old pair of headphones, the cord has snapped off in multiple places, and I'd rather just replace it than attempt to fix it again.

Thanks for the comments! Any idea if this is the vintage version?

No idea about 'vintage' v600s, mine are probably from the same era with the pair in your photos. Also for the design, I think you can consider ATH M40fs, they go for about the same price range as v600 and has padded headband and overall comfortable look. I don't own them though but tried them once and they sound good. If comfort is really a big problem then best thing you can do is go to the store and try them on.
