Best over ears for around $200? (Bass-lover)

I've had the Sony XB-500's for about two years now and I'm finally looking for an upgrade. I tried in-ear headphones but I was stupid and bought the beats tours (Never going back to beats again). So I've sold those and got most of my money back and I'm ready to buy a new pair of Over-ears. I've been looking for something with awesome bass like the XB's but can't really find anything. I've looked at the V-moda Crossfade LP's and they seem nice for only 130. I've also looked at the Sennheiser 598 but they are kind of expensive and the cord being 10 ft long and it requiring a 3.5mm adapter is a turn-off. Just looking for suggestions.

The V-Moda is pretty well-known (except for their cheapest models) for packing good SQ into a package that looks relatively nice. Many would also recommend you the Ultrasone HFI-780, Ultrasone HFI-580, and Denon D2000. Do you plan on amping your headphones? What kind of music do you listen to?

The 598s will not satisfy your need for bass.  The Crossfade LP is not worth looking at, though the LP2 and the M80 are better.  In fact, I doubt anything short of a subwoofer would be able to beat the XB500s in bass quantity, and very few headphones can come close to matching them.

I've heard the the Audio-Technica Pro700MkII are good basshead cans, and Ultrasones are frequently recommended.  Last I checked, the Pro700s and the Ultrasone HFI-580 both retail for around $100.

I listen to most kinds of music but mainly Hip-Hop/Rap. I love kanye west and Jay-z along with a few other rappers. lil-wayne Is trash and Eminem has nice lyrics but sounds so angry in every song. And I am a newb and honestly know nothing about amps. I know they make things sound better but I wouldn't know which amp to pick or what a reasonable price would be for one.

I don't exactly like the looks of the HFi 580's. I'm sure they have great sound too but style matters too. The Pro700's look pretty nice though I may get those. I'm sure the Denon's are great but they're out of my price range.

HFI 580

Vmoda LP2

DT770 pro

DT990 pro

I didn't like the shape of the HFI 580's either but htey have grown on me. Get the DJ1's then(not the pro') they are the HFI 580's with a differnt outer shield to make it look better :)

The ATH M50 is not on this list due to change in audiophile tastes recently. Most would recommend the HFI 580 over the ATH M50 now.

The VMODA's are pretty good from what i hear. a bit muddy and not as "audiophile" as the rest from what i hear but sitll a good choice

I don't know much about the Beyer's but do know they are bassy headphones.

All of these will improve with amping. Espeically the Beyer's. The HFI and LP2 don't exactly need need it. but i find that on my hfi's. the volume is "just" enough out of an ipod. i would get an E11 if i were you.

I think I'm leaning towards the Pro700MK2's and i'll have to see about buying the amp later. I don't know much about them nor how to work them.

You can call J&R; they typically offer them for between $200 and $250 if you call and ask for their best pricing.  Electronics Expo also occasionally gets some open box deals that they sell for $200.

Yah I saw on amazon a 225 from electronics expo. I looked more into the denons and that 6-7 foot cable that is extremely thick is a turn off. I wanted a pair that is more portable but the denon's seem perfect besides that. I really like the XB-500 and the beats by dre tour's flat cables.

Oh, yeah, if you're looking for portables, the Denons are out.

I guess the Pro700's are back in, I still don't really know much about them though. I'll just make a list (Prolly should have put this in first post)

1.Must be portable (No 6-7 foot cables)

2. Must completely Cup ears not sitting on them

3. Must have good, Booming bass

4. Mustn't be ugly

5. Must be somewhere around $200 or at least reasonable. 300 tops.
