Converting 2.1 to 4.1..Is it a good idea?

So, guys i finally bought altec lansing Octane 7 (VS4621) and they are really awesome according to me being a bass freak. It only have pure bass, nothing else. So, after buying the set, i used a 3.5mm splitter to make the system 4.1 by connecting one end with my new speakers and other end with my creative 2.1 setup. i kept one complete system at one end and other at opposite corner. I played the song and i found that the Woofer of the creative system is not working but the satellites are working great. So, there are few doubts i want to clear:

1)How can i make the woofer of the creative system work simultaneously?

2)I am thinking of pairing the altec octane 7 with Altec Lansing BXR1220 2.0 System. Will this thing serve me better as the woofer of octane 7 is powerful enough.

3)Any other suggestion?

If the Creative woofer isn't working, it should be a problem with the speakers if everything else is working as intended--especially since the woofer routes the sound to the sats.
