Like the title says

Which Speakers are better than the Audioengine A5?

My Maverick TubeMagic D2 DAC ($270) will be running the speakers. i also have a Polk Audio Subwoofer ($500)

Uses are Laptops, Piano, TV, iPod, PS3, etc.

I have about $300 to spend on speakers.

At $300 no, since their is no need for an amp. Are there better passive speakers at $300? Pretty sure. A5 is a solid product and performs very well for its price range.

Err many have owned the A5s and Swan higher end actives and the latter consistently offer better SQ/$$ and even then drop down to AVS forums and peeps would definitely steer u away from actives for TV/Living room audio set up L3000.gif

A pair of entry level psbs with a no-frills T-amp or such would probably be the closest you can get to being 'better' while still remaining inexpensive, but it would put you under 400, not 300.  Actives do have their purpose if you want to stay very low on the price.
