Hi all,
I've been lurking the forums these days. Hope I can get some help from our head-fiers
- butget: $150
- type: over ear, closed. I've seen many people recommend Grados for metal, but they're opened.
- music: symphonic metal, heavy metal, alternative rock. Here are some of my favorite bands: Nightwish, Avenged Sevenfold, Within Temptation, The Rasmus.
- I'm a noob when it comes to musical terms, so I'll just describe my sound preference base on voices: I love high & smooth female voice like the singer in Within Temptation and The Carpenters(if anyone still remembers them), not high & strong like Beyonce. For male, I like M.Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold. I absolutely love to hear all the instrumental background from the songs.
I've noted down some headphones: Shure SRH-440, SRH 840, ATH M50, HD25-1 ii, HD 555, HD 558, HD 518.
I don't know which one to choose base on my music reference. I'm also open to other headphone suggestions.
Thanks!

First, I should note that I auditioned these both straight out of the box, without any break-in time and then later after 53 hours of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite...

I auditioned the SRH-1840 straight out of the box, and was unsatisfied with the sound, so I decided to give them a period of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite differences...

Strangely enough the 440s are my favorites right now, but i am left wondering how the 840s would be with a bit more bass. Maybe you can find a place a demo them both?
Pick up a pair of KSC75 if you haven't already!

The Senn HD-555, HD-558, HD-518 are all open headphones.
Check out the KRK KNS 8400.
