I have a pair of Etymotic HF3's.
From what I've read, with Etys you're supposed to jam the tip pretty far into your ear canal to achieve a very deep fit, but for me that is just not possible because of my ear canals. I don't know if they are too small or bent or something but if I do a deep insert the tip gets "shut" by the clamping force of my ear and the sound instantly turns tinny and muffled.
For me the best way to wear them is to just place them in my ear and then give them a few light taps with my fingers. This gives me a proper seal, albeit very shallow (even more so than with the IE8, which according to many has an unusually shallow fit), with vastly improved bass/mids and even quite a bit of soundstage.
While I'm very happy with the sound, I'm just wondering if I'm perhaps missing out on the "real" Ety sound or if others listen to them with a fit like this one as well.
