Need serious audio help.

Thread Starter

Hello, I'm recently new to all this audiophile headphone business. I recently bought a Ultrasone hfi 580, and a creative titanium HD. I absolutely LOVE the bass that comes out of these things, however... The Ultrasone hfi 580 is the most uncomfortable piece of headgear I've ever worn. Therefore I'm going to return them.

Now I see it as two options for me (Unless you have a better idea)

--Return the Ultrasone hfi 580 and get the Sennheiser HD 518, and keep the card. (Spend roughly 50$)

OR

--Return both the Ultrasone and Creative titanium, and get the Razer Timat gaming headset. (Save roughly 80$)

Money is tight for me right now, and my main priorities are Price>Comfortability>Performance. I really like audio, but I cant stand it if I have to take off my headphones every 30 minutes to feel better. The Razer Headsets have 'decent' quality, nothing to complain about, however they are very light (Compared to hfi 580s) and very comfortable but I always hear "Dont get headsets!!! Their bad!" Why are headsets considered to be so horrible? I also hear a lot of great reviews of the Sennheiser 518s, but I have had no interaction with Sennheiser products before.

Any and all input is GREATLY appreciated.

Note:

I use headphones for 50% gaming, 50% music.

I have an above average, onboard soundcard.

I say go for the Sennheiser HD-518 headphones.  They are really comfortable and if they pinch a tad too much you can gently stretch them over a large box of nose tissue for a few days.  That always works well for me.

The HD-518 will be awesome for gaming because not only is it an open headphone so it creates a better sense of space, but they also use E.A.R technology which gives an even greater sense of space.  They will leak a tad bit of sound so be aware of that.

I think you will really like the HD-518.

That doesn't really mean much, but for what you're looking for it should be fine.  It may be something to consider down the road, though, if you get more into high-end audio and have more loose money.

For now, get the Senns and a zalman clip-on mic, if you don't have a separate mic already: http://www.amazon.com/Zalman-Zm-Mic1-Sensitivity-Headphone-Microphone/dp/B00029MTMQ

Mid-range sennheisers like the HD-518 tend to be great all-rounders and are very comfortable.
