Monster breaking up with Beats

Monster's still making headphones.  And I think Beats is continuing, as well.  I don't think this will be a wake-up call to them to suddenly start producing good quality headphones.

Wow, that's good news to me... The Monster turbine IEMs arn't the worst buds you can get... Beats kinda are the worst though.

"He’s not particularly worried about the competition from other high-end headphone makers, such as Philips Electronics and Bose"

Do people really think those are "high-end" headphone makers? I knew that the high-end headphone market was relatively obscure, but not this bad.

They broke up because they had disagreement with how much they are splitting from the beats profits.

It's pretty bad. A lot of the people I talk to think Skullcandy is high end and beats are amazing because they're better than skullcandy...

High end for mass consumers is $200-$400. Pushing that, it's getting in to insane levels, which we buy in to because we're crazy lol.

I wonder what will happen to Monster as a company? i didn't know they existed until beats.

the sad thing is that dre and iovine will probably still continue to make beats and have celebrities advertise them as reference quality and high performance with inflated prices.

I think this is quite a bit of fridge brilliance. Why CAN'T A high-end company do this?

Think about it... Monster got away with the lion's share of (albeit uninformed) consumer dollars with RUBBISH sound, simply because of this type of marketing. If, say, AKG or Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic got the Beats trademark and made a decent mid-level consumer headphone (read: mid-bass heavy), they'd be satisfying both markets and be laughing all the way to the bank.

They were (and still are) one of the biggest consumer cable companies.  They sell loads of overpriced HDMI cables (seriously, $100 for a HDMI cable?), guitar cables, really any audio-visual cables you can think of.  They also still have their IEMs (Turbines, Miles Davis, etc).  Beats did sort of throw them into everyday pop culture circles though.

I doubt it.  The division will probably split off and form its own company.  God knows they already have the brand recognition.

Audioquest is far worse in that regard (silver plated "PSC" HDMI or USB cables for 10X the price of the Monsters). They do make pretty good speaker wire (both AQ and Monster) but to buy a completed cable from either is crazy priced... though the welded AQ cables don't fall apart when you disconnect them like most monster ones do.

Wow, that's pretty bad.  I think Monster sells more volume though since they're all over Best Buy and every other audio-visual store in existence.
