On/Over ear headphones for under $150

So I would like to get a pair of on or  over ear headphones that are worth getting, the only thing is that my limit is $150 and under.

The kind of music I listen to is:

  • Indie rock
  • Alternative
  • Dubstep
  • Indie electro/ R&B

I want headphones that look stylish and are slightly light as well. Ones that I have been looking at are:

  • Audio Technica ATh - M50
  • Marshall Major FX
  • Grado sr80i

If you could suggest any headphones that you think might end my search, pleaaaasssseeee suggest. Thanks!

Pioneer HDJ500? Relatively light, looks nice, and is tough enough to shove into a cramped backpack without worry. Well under budget too. It might fit your tastes a bit more since it has a mid-bass happy sound sig. It's not too unbalanced sounding despite the V shaped frequency response, mids are present as much as the treble.

Denon AH-D1100.  Very lightweight, stylish, efficient, and great for things like Dubstep.  Only problem is they seem to be kinda fragile.  You can get em' for $150 if you look around.

Why not HFi780, very good with your types of music.

I listen to those genres frequently and have always been more than satisfied with my Ultrasone HFI-580. They're going for a steal on Amazon right now (considering I paid around $190 for mine)!

edit-- so I just noticed they're listed as out of stock from Amazon LLC. Nonetheless, they're great headphones. It's no surprise they sold out as fast as they did at $118.81.

I'd also recommend the Audio-Technica M50

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I think I'm definitely going to go for one of the ultrasone pairs!

is there a big difference between the HFi580 and the HFi780 ?

From the Ultrasone website, these are the noted differences from the technical specifications.

HFI-580:

  • Frequency range 10-22.000 Hz
  • Impedance 32 Ohm
  • Sound pressure level 101 dB
  • Driver 50 mm Mylar

HFI-780

  • Frequency range 10-26.000 Hz
  • Impedance 35 Ohm
  • Sound pressure level 96 dB
  • Driver 40 mm gold-plated

It seems like they use the same technology, so the only difference I can assume is the quality of the drivers.
