Headphone Amp under $100 to drive 50Ohm Headphones

Hello!

I need something under $100 to drive my Sennheiser HD 598 which are only 50 Ohms.

I HAVE a Maverick Audio Tube Magic D2 DAC i bought for $269.

Laptop > DAC > AMP > Headphones

Which one should i get?

The Fiio E11 is a solid portable amp that would power the HD598 just fine. The E9 has tons of power for a desktop amp under $100. It has ZERO problems driving the HD598.

AH. I was also looking at the E11. Could the E11 connect to the DAC that i have? i want better sound quality and i wonder if the E11 would distort some of the sounds going to the headphones.

Yes, buy an RCA male to 3.5mm male cable... they will connect to your DAC just fine. Though since this is not a portable setup (your DAC isn't portable), I would suggest the E9 over the E11.

I recommend the cmoyBB and E11 over the E9, the E9 is more for headphones of 80 ohms and above like the Beyerdynamics 80 ohm, 250ohm headphones or Sennheisers 300ohm headphones. I like the cmoyBB more though, it is quieter and has more output power though the E11 is smaller.

The E9 has no problem with lower ohm headphones. It's dead silent with the Denon D7000 which is 25ohm, and it has great synergy with it. It's rated for 16-600ohm headphones. I've used it with the HD598 with no issues whatsoever. More clean power = better.

this one?

The concept is smart, looking like an ALTOIDS box. so that one should be good to power my 50 ohm headphones? hopefully theres no hiss sounds, rattle, distorted audio. Would of been easier on me with Maverick D1 instead but those only do 16 bit / 44khz via USB so i declined.

Wouldn't it be weird to use the E9 without an E7? There's the leftover socket that tends to look weird without the E7 or E17 filling it.

also thanks for telling me to get the RCA Male to 3.5 male. I'm really freshman when it comes to audio components.

I have no problems with the E9, I just feel(and hear) that overall the better amp would be the cmoybb for the HD598 which would provide cleaner power.

Yes, it will be a great match with them 598(Tried the cmoyBB with 80 ohm dt770 and 60 ohm cd900st, drives both effortlessly). Btw it is an ALTOIDs box lol.

In that case for $60 i'll take it hehe. It seems if you tell them your headphones and many ohms it uses they will make adjustments for the best overall experience for you, that's neeto!.

It will plug into my DAC fine right?

Do you recommend the rechargable one? This has a DC plug so i can use without the battery right?

I recommend taking the rechargeable(1X) one if you don't have a 9v charger(which I advice you get instead to avoid overcharging issues), and its greener. The amp itself can be used while charging though. The bad is that you will need to find yourself the power plug which is not difficult. You can find one from farnell/ element14 for cheap prices if you need an EU one. 12VDC+ power sources are common place though.

You can read it up here http://www.jdslabs.com/pdf/Instructions_203R.pdf
