Gaming Headset with criterias

Thread Starter

I am currently in need of a new gaming headset, and I know many like to use the Zalman clip on mice and a pair of high end headphones. I am using that method right now, with my Sennheiser HD 595 and I hate it. All my friends complain about on the low volume on my voice and all noise from the enviroment around me is picked up. So therefore I'm searching for a good headset.

I currently have Sennheiser HD 595 and Beyerdynamic DT 770. I don't like my Beyers at all, with it's mumbling vocals and grumbling bass. I love my Sennheiser HD 595, with its crispy, clear vocals and its high arsenal of details. Features that's more normal with a open pair of headphones. With this kept in mind, it's easier to understand what kind of sound picture I like, and easier to make recommendations.

I am curently looking on two different Sennheiser headsets, the PC 350 and PC 360. First one is a closed headset and the second is an open headset. The reason why I'm not jumping straight toward the PC 360, is that, because I already have the HD 595, I would like a pair of headset that's not quite as open as the one I have. I've heard that the PC 350, actually, do not have a large amount of bass, so how would these compare to the HD 595? Or is there any closed headset at all that actually give me a good soundstage, clear and crispy vocals?

EDIT: It's highly important that easy muting is an option on the headset, volume controll would be a plus.

All you have to do is get rid of the craptastic Zalman mic. That is why they can't hear you well. It's a piece of crap.

Thank me later.

Get that and curse yourself for spending 10x as much on a mic should've worked the way this one does. wink.gif

I would grab a modmic (http://www.amazon.com/AntLion-ModMic-Attachable-Boom-Microphone/dp/B005IT9P3G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326394824&sr=8-1) or www.modmic.com

I just got one last week and it is a really nice product. The only annoyance is having an extra cord, but for the amount you save compared to buying a high quality headset with mic is worth it. Sounds really good, is easily removable, definitely good if you want to use a pair of cans you already have.

For some reason, the reverse happened for me. I have both the DX and Zalman mics, and the DX one worked horribly for me. It picked up more background noise, and was alot more fuzzy. The Zalman works fine, however, and is much clearer.

It really seems like a hit or miss thing, because this discussion has gone both ways.

For the price of admission, it isn't worth much for OP to order the DX mic. I'm gonna assume it will be better than the Zalman.

I'm really not keen on placing another clip-on-mic on my HD 595. confused_face.gif

I could use this option as an open headset, but is there any closed headsets with good soundstage, clear high vocals similiar to the HD 595?

But if I wanted a closed headset, similiar to the HD 595, Sennheiser PC 350 would be the choice, right?

What about Audio Technica AD700?

Just read this thread with interest, I've read rave reviews about the audio technica's and games, not going to have rumbling cinema bass but excellent for FPS games.

I'm toying with getting the q701's bit of an over kill but i'm sure they'd be excellent for FPS's.

Only reason I havent splashed out on the technicas is that my no one heard of "goldring ns-1000's" are selling for £100 I got them for £50 from www.superfi.co.uk and i'm not convinced that they'd be a worthy upgrade as you might be considering, from going from HD595's.

Meh, I will never buy super exspensive closed headphones (you never know tho), at least not for now. I was thinking mainly to game with them, so soundstage is important. So the closed headphones would be used in situations I can not use open headphones, at night, with noisy enviroments. So I've heard that the AD700 is good for gaming and music too, and quite open and airy to be a closed set of headphones.

I also want ot get the Q701 or the K701 headphones as my ultimate open headphones! :)

EDIT: Thought the AD700 was closed... it's open. Damn!

Yeah, that's a great deal if you live in Europe, but if you can buy in the U.S, is cheaper. Thought the K701 are a very famous and loved model, it is a very hated one as well, so you gotta take the risk, and you'll need a dedicated amp too.

Tried K701 in the store, didn't like it. :/

What don't you like about the K701 in relation to your HD595?
