Not sure if this is the place to post this thread so I'm sorry if its not.
The sony ss-tl1 is a very old speaker made in the 1991 I believe. I decided to revive it but I don't have an amplfier so I improvised and used the center piece in the middle of the picture below (don't know what its called). So far it works but the sound is not that great. I can barely hear any bass. Do I need an actual amplifier/receiver in order to here the full effect of the speakers or is it just the speaker itself? BTW the (receiver or whatever the middle part is) is not from the actual picture. Its from sharp. Also if I were to get an amplifier would I need a receiver as well? Is it better to get both?

Also the ss-tl1 was in bad shape. The diaphragm was all cut up so I attempted to fix it. I can show you a picture of it. I used black electrical tape to enclose everything. BTW the outside part was covered in foam. Do I need to cover that part up in order to get better sound for the sub woofer?
The open part where my finger is at use to have a foam covering. Do I need to cover that part up in order to hear the full effect of the woofer.
