Q: Hi, I would like to know a little more about the condition of this AMP. Does it have any damage or scratches etc? Have you opened it or made any internal changes or mods, or changed tubes? Many thanks
A:  Hi, please don't bid if your concerned about scratches. No mods on amp

 

Not me asking the Q but, very sociable guy...  you would think for a $$$$ amp the seller wouldn't mind disclosing its condition or providing better pics.

Audiophiles are WEIRD.

I would construe the seller's answer as "Don't buy it! It's in bad shape for the price I am asking."

Can it drive the HE6 or AKG K1000?

I know it can drive the Grado's and R10 very well

I tried K1000 ones, but its day and night when you compare it to the speaker amp.

Regarding the seller who has excellent feedback, his response to the question seems rather atypical. It's not unusual to simply state "a few minor surface scratches but no major problems". Given his unwillingness to do something like this I wonder if someone has stolen his Ebay ID making this a possible scam or perhaps he is just in a nasty mood. Either way, it's no way to treat a prospective buyer for a high ticket item, or any price item for that matter.

Wow.... someone just bid $2400 last second on this.  I would have been willing to go $1750 as a risk on this, but the seller was pretty terrible.  When I asked for pictures of the amp he said "there are scratches on the amp but I'm not going to take any pictures because it's in the box."  When I asked for internals he said "No."  When I asked for any paperwork etc he ignored me.  I'm actually pretty happy my bid wasn't the high one.

I guess it was was a little risky but the amp is in perfect working condition!

Got it checked by a friend in the US and now its on its way to me!!

The amp has arrived!!

Barely visible scratches and its in perfect working condition!

Spectacular sound, just a few notches below the Stingray in attack & speed ONLY.

Worth it's weight in gold(and it IS heavy!)

 

Finally my HP-2s have found their mate!!

Congrats, well done, great amp indeed, how is it with PS1000? What brand/kind 6SL7 tubes are inside?

You should find Carlo's review of the EAR-HP4 VS the MELOS. Its a pretty pimping amp (both, really).
