Just dug out my little 2gb nano. It had problems of rebooting if i go to fast ever since i installed rockbox on it.

Anyway plugged it in after years of no use, lo and behold it fired up and is running great.

What are these like for sq, i think it has a wolfson WM8975.

I have bought an lod and can't wait to amp it up, how do you think it'll stack up against my fuze?

I looked for an owners thread but had no luck.

The iPod Nano 1G sounds really good when Rockboxed. I highly recommend Rockbox for great sq. IMO the rockbox iPod Nano 1G sounds a little better than the rockbox Fuze.

Yeah i see what you mean, badly needs that eq adjustment to really shine.

Got the lod today as the ebay seller was local.

Id say it's a warm, musical player with lots of punch.

The fuze however was winning on sparkle and separation, that does have a custom lod mindn the nano has just a fiio l9 for now.

Trouble was it is too warm, it envelops everything, with my fuze/P4/EHP100 the synergy is perfect, every note to me is perfect.

I think my nano will work very well with my sleek customs, as they're very bright.

Anyway i'll rockbox it on the weekend and have a fiddle.

Nice to finally know what an ipod from a line out sounds like.

@huxley,

sorry to get u into this, but that isn't really the best u can get off of the Wolfson DAC......

It would actually "Really Shine" when the small caps in between the DAC and the LineOut pins are removed (Courtesy DiyMod Nano)

The LOD, in case u remove the caps from inside the iPod, would require external caps, and u have the freedom of choosing the best Caps for SQ, improving the SQ a lot.......

ofcourse that would mean opening up ur iPod, or letting somebody else bypass the caps for u....

Oh dear you have me ripping my nano apart, my induction caps are sitting horizontally and not vertically, so i'll probably go for the two on the left, i have a suspicion these will be the ones i need to remove.

Anyway i'll read up on the guide, im on holiday after tomorrow so will have plenty of time to fiddle around.

Quick edit, im assuming i can remove both the top and bottom caps, but this would mean wiring them into the lod?

Oh my God, u do have a 1g Nano only right? coz if it is, the Caps would never sit horizontally. The caps u remove should be the LineOut ones, which are the black ones (LO makes more sense to me, the internal caps u place, i mean the new ones, should be smaller, and electrolytics are not small) Refer to this http://www.ualberta.ca/~jple/diyMod/guides/models/nano1g.html I Hope, infact pray to god u did not damage ur iPod because i did not reply on time. Mine are sitting horizontally, i'll take a picture tomorrow as all i've done is open up the nano.

I was going to start soldering this week funnily enough, i'll post a close up tomorrow.

Oh i see what you mean, lol those are fine, i meant the induction caps on the bottom.

Im assuming i don't remove any of the caps top or bottom?

For the best u can squeeze out of the nano by shorting all the components from the Line Out Caps to the Dock connector, i'd say short all of them, by soldering a wire from the top legs of the LO caps, and short them directly to the Dock (a difficult task, really difficult) otherwise, u cud just short the LO caps, removing them and soldering a small piece of wire where the caps were soldered. the Caps to Dock pins short is better, but is harder. so until u dont have a firm hand and a nice sharp soldering iron and lots of confidence, i'd say do not try shorting thecaps to the pins, rather go with shorting the Caps only.

When i look at the dock i assume you mean where the ribbon cable goes in?

If so which ones do i solder the wire to.

Yes im feeling brave lol, but i have good solder wick and cardas solder at hand should i need it.

Anyway here's my little nano.

Sorry about the quality, it's from my phone if you want better i can grab the bigger camera.

When you mention the lo caps, is it the big orange ones c86/87, or the two small ones marked c53/54 next to it?

Im racing through the diymod thread to see what i can find.

Ok from what i can gather, C57-L7 C58-L8

So how do i go about soldering to the dock method, i guess it's remove all caps and go from top of C57/58 but to where?
