Ordering HFI 580 + amp this morning,....any final thoughts?

First off, thanks to everyone for all the great info....and for providing alot of insight on my other Pro900 'noob question' thread.

 

After consideration and research I have decided to order the HFI 580 + Fiio E10  amp.

 

I would only use this at the office.....from a computer.  A lot of what I have read here suggests the 580's don't really need an amp....however I am 'thinking' the E10 will not only amp the 580's, but will take my on-board motherboard sound output "out of the loop' thereby giving me a cleaner source as well.

 

As I mentioned in my previous thread, I was "this close" to buying some Beat Studio's....as they are the ONLY high end (if you wanna call them that) headphones I have ever heard...and they blew me away.

 

So for my musical tastes ...EDM, miami dance scene, Daft Punk..etc...etc.......the bass is hugely important,....and the Beats gave me that.

Trusting all I have read here,.....this should be a substantially better setup.

 

Any final insight appreciated!

You are correct, the Fiio E10 is both a dac and amp so it should sound much cleaner than the signal from your onboard sound card. As for the hfi 580, I have no personal experience with them so I can't really say if they would be good or not. Only going from what I've heard they should be good for edm with lots of bass impact. The e10 bass boost switch should help if you need even more bass, which to me sounds fairly substantial when I turn it on. Good luck hope this helps.

From what I've read about using those phones with an amp, it generally tightens up the bass response. Unless you have a nice soundcard, the DAC section of the e10 will probably make more of a difference in sound quality when using the 580's.

 

Also, the 580's blew the Beat's bass out of the water in my opinion beyersmile.png

lol....thx.

And yeah.....I am hoping to benefit from the DAC, as my sound is currently the 'basic' on-board sound from the motherboard....currently listening to Sen HD 201's.

 

At least ordering from B&H,....if for some insane reason I do not like the 580's I can easily return them......

You might not like the treble at first. Just let your brain adapt to it and you'll be fine after a little while.

I just got the Ultrasone DJ1 same as hfi-580 and i'm really impressed, sound great with edm, trance and hip hop. I'm running them unamped but i think they would benefit from an amp. Don't be too dissapointed with them out of the box, i gave mine 20 hours burn in and they've already made a significant change.

Ordered from B&H.

Headphones and FiiO E10 for $194 (free shipping).

 

So...fingers crossed,....and hopefully these will kill the incredibly fond memory I have of the Beats!

I ordered my 580s this morning, but not an amp.  I would love to hear your feelings on the unamped vs amped difference.  Thanks smily_headphones1.gif
