First time amp Wattage question/ help

Hi all, I've just started my first project. More just for something to build then anything else and didnt really know what i ordered but i got this http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Tube-6N3-Buffer-Audio-Preamplifier-Amp-Pre-AMP-Board-Y101-/250966948517?_trksid=p4340.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC.NPJS%26its%3DI%252BC%26itu%3DUA%26otn%3D5%26pmod%3D250929628673%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5529098117358191778#ht_2617wt_1037

Was reading through it and it says 10W output. Is that going to blow my headphones if i plug into it? If so is there anyway i tune that down or a way to make this into something usuable? thanks.

That is simply a buffer, not an amplifier. Note the gain of 0 dB. I believe the 10W is referring to how much power it consumes, not its output. It does not give any output power/voltage specifications.

I doubt that will drive your headphones unless they are very high impedance

and quite sensitive. It is meant to drive another piece of equipment.

Thanks for the answers so far. So as a buffer are they just meant to make it sound better? I was planning on running it along with this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/250953181282?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648#ht_9543wt_889. Would that be a better idea?
just curious what piece of equipment are they meant to drive?

'Better' is a matter of opinion. I think different is a better word. wink.gif It is probably meant to impart some tubey sound to your signal chain. You would insert the buffer before an amplifier.

The other thing you linked would probably work decently as a headphone amp as it uses NE5532 op amp on the output. Though it doesn't mention any circuit details, output voltage swing probably isn't huge since it only requires 10 VDC input as a minimum, so don't expect it to drive a HE-6 properly, but for moderate to high sensitivity headphones it should be fine.
