Looking for some headphones around $100 or under.

Hello all :)

I was originally looking at the Sony MDR-XB700, but they are suddenly out of stock everywhere and cannot be found.

So i am looking for an alternative.

Obviously, I care alot about bass. Both how deep they go, and bass quantity/quality. But I want an overall nice sound, with good crisp treble as well. And Over-Ear type.

The XB500's are obviously on my list, but I wanna know what else could be better for me. Around $100.

Thank you in advance!

If you really want the XB700, why don't you just wait the wee kor so it will take for them to come back in stock. There are more on the way so you can always just order now and wait for the backorder. Bottomlinetelecom lists an ETA of 1/15 for more stock so most retailers will also likely get them starting around that time.

That's my plan actually. Another site also says 1/19. But Sony themselves say April. So I have my doubts if it will actually be available or not, so I'm looking for alternatives.

In that case, a little over your budget right now, but the ATH-M50 or the ATH-Pro700Mk2 would be great choices for you. Take a look at this thread here as it may give you more ideas:

Wow thats an awesome deal, thanks!

I was seriously considering the Shure SPH750's. But now with the Denon AH-D1100 around the same price, which is better?

Denon's seem a bit cheaper made and looks like the Shure's would be better quality wise. Both have great reviews for sound.

Not to add insult to injury but if you can wait for the XB700... DO IT. It's got a little more bass than than ATH-M50 and it's cheaper.

Also, there is a simple mod for the Sony XB700 [and 500...] basically there's a white tap that covers over a foam mesh on the back of the Drivers... if you've got steady hands a small Philips head and tweezers it's easy to remove] and when removed makes a substantially noticeable improvement to the Bass as well as adds some clarity and brightness to the trebles

So... if your a bass head I'd say wait for the XB700's they are dreamy. The others do have more balance and are a little more well rounded[while still having nice bass]... but you don't want balance do you... no you really want Sub-Bass that drops like a 12inch on the side of your head :3 and the XB700 does that well... just don't ask to do mids xD
