Hello, i've recently had a problem with interference in an auditorium. The microphone cables sometimes pick up the local radio stations, but moving the cable or replacing it with a shorter one helps.

The current setup has mics with balanced TRS cables plugged into the wall. I've never seen the cables in the walls and floor, but i'm told it's unbalanced but shielded.

Another TRS jack in the wall connects everything to the soundboard, amp, etc.

I'm still kind of new to all this, but as far as my knowledge goes, we're getting interference because the microphone cables aren't shielded (and are serving as antennae). And the balanced cables are useless because the cables in the walls aren't balanced. Correct?

Any tips on how to fix this? Should we get shielded cables for the mics, or maybe replace the wall cabling with balanced cables?

I was also wondering if it's necessary for the cables to be both balanced and shielded. Is one better than the other?

Thanks in advance,

Andrew
