Im looking at speakers and soundcard with a budget $300.  Im looking at these speakers:

or

Does anyone know of any other speakers I should be looking at that are cheaper and similar performance?

Im also looking for a soundcard to pair with these.  Id say ill use it for about 70% gaming 30% music and movies.

First important question: are you only going to use stereo speakers, or do you think you'll need more than two analog channels for 5.1 or 7.1 down the road? I can't recommend sound cards as easily without knowing that.

2 spearkers for now and maybe a sub down the road?  And I plan on buying some nice headphones down the road as well.

In that case, the two analog channel limit of cards like the X-Fi Titanium HD and Xonar Essence STX won't hold you back.

Because you're primarily going to be gaming, I'd go with the Titanium HD, especially if you play any games that use the DirectSound3D or OpenAL APIs and/or use EAX 3/4/5.

What is the difference between those speakers?  Will I notice anything?

Also will I be able to have my headset plugged in and put say itunes to play form the speakers and skype to go to my headsets?

I can't say I notice much of a difference between those speakers...except for aesthetics and price.

As for having your headset play different sounds compared to your speakers, that would basically require two audio devices. You could keep the integrated sound turned on just to use with the headset and set up Skype to use that for input/output while the speakers and their associated sound card continue to serve as the default audio device, though if it's a USB headset, it basically has its own sound card already.
