Best $250ish HP

Thread Starter

I'm looking for headphones around $250 or cheaper that are clear, crisp, and true to sound. I have recently gotten into making dub step, so detailed bass that doesn't distort the highs too much are a must. I don't want a headphone that increase bass; I want to a true to sound tone as posiable. As far as amps go, I haven't reached that level yet. I'm not completly aposed to the idea, but I perfer with out for now with the possiability to upgrade later. Features I prefer are single locking cord, closed so sound doesn't bleed in or out, rotatable so I can move one side to listen to whats going on around me when I chose, over ear instead of on, and most imporantly, sturdy. I don't like headphones that are bulky in size, weight is no issue however because I'm used to wearing as kevlar. I've had every beats headphones from the solo hd to the dextros and they all suck (they are cheep here). I like my friends kicker hp 541's a lot, but from what everyone says there's a lot better out there, and they are missing a lot of features i would like. Thank you all for you help.

Start with Audio Technica ATH-M50 which is a good studio headphone as well as listening headphone.

Average Price $120

The next jump up would be the V-Moda Crossfade being either the M80 or V80.  Both are exactly the same build, but the V80 is the TrueBlood version and the M80 has a more generic exterior that can be custom labeled for $50 more.

Average Price: $199

The M80/V80 has a flatter frequency response curve which will aid in studio work more.  Both the M80 and ATH-M50 are built really well so you will get many years of use out of either.

Begin with SRH840 for closed or HD600 for open headphone.

Not exactly the M50 imo.

I'd go for the 840's as well, detailed and neutral headphones.

I would consider the Sony 7506 over the Shure's.  They are about 1/2 the price, more neutral (with better soundstage and instrument separation to my ears), lighter and just as if not more durable than the 840's.  They are on-ear rather than true circumaural, but I'd classify the Shure's as pretty much the same way.  The Sony's are plenty comfortable to wear all day.  I don't think you'd be disappointed in the Shure's, just that they aren't any better (to my ears, actually a bit worse) than the cheaper Sony's.
