Might be their best attribute, really. They quickly disappear in that regard.
I managed to somehow mess up a multi quote. Thanks iPod. This site makes my iPod pretty angry. Crashing Safari constantly.

Purrin -- Is it possible to do this FR overlay with other headphones as well? It'd be nice to get a feel of just how bad that peak is. That 6K peak looks like how my Edition 8 sounded, and those were bad (as you well know).
EDIT: Requests for usual suspects -- HD800, LCD2/3, HD600/650, etc.

a few more to come...
vs LCD3 (in red)
vs ATH-M50
vs RS-1 (flat pads)
vs. HD558 (modded - internal foam strip removed)
vs. KSC-75 (thanks Ultra!)
Let me see if I can find some full spectrum non-linear distortion measurements for the bass.
Thanks...
These two graphs are interesting. The HD800 is pretty much at the limit of brightness for most people (and way past the limit for some). Even my Anax-modded pair are just south of being a deal breaker for me. And the HD700 is +5db at that problematic spot at 6K.
On the other hand, the LCD2 is too dark for some people. At 6K the difference between an LCD2 and HD800 (5db) is the same as between HD800 and HD700. Plus, I always felt the treble on my LCD2r2 to be a bit rough and uneven. The HD700 puts it to shame.
I was curious to hear these for myself, but after seeing these graphs, thanks for saving me a thousand bucks.
Awesome. What frequency are you matching them up at? I can't find.
I gotta see the RS1 and other grados and their famous peaks plotted against this monster HD700 5kHz peak
I am thinking of getting an OCC Cyro SPC cable for my 700s, hopefully toning down the bright trebles a bit.
Does anyone know if the one in 'white' would slowly oxidise to a green-ish colour after some time? Or would I be better off getting a black one?
And my wish has been granted. honestly, it seems fairly similar in magnitude. it’s the sharper dips and peaks after 5k that seems worse on the HD700.
hmm, i liked my RS1 (Only the GS1000 8 kHz peak has been large enough to make me put in some EQ). I wonder if I would even be bothered by the HD700 peakiness. Or maybe it’s more a problem of timbre/tone from the combination of peaks/ valleys than the specific magnitude of the 5k peak.
anyway, very nice seeing the comparisons, purrin!
I think the green one would sound more natural while the black one will provide a darker background. A clear cable will probably be more transparent.
Couldn't help it. I don't think any cable will help tame the HD700. Oh wait.....having no cable attached would work on saving your ears.
Yeah, the cool thing about Purrin's FR graphs is that they are compensated for the human ear, in an attempt to measure how they sound, so you don't have to try to interpret them. In other words, flat is ideal like it is in the speaker measurement world, there's isn't an "ideal curve". AFAIK
