Sennheiser HD 700: Officially Unveiled at CES 2012! - Page 126

It's funny, I'm finding Mike's review to be pretty sloppy and all over the place (he did say he's gonna be fixing it up in the next day or so, so I can understand). At first he says they sound more effortless and quicker than the HD800's and saying that they have a more enjoyable sound sig. Leads me to think it's very much like the HD800's, possibly better. But then he says they're dark; yes, dark, not warm. Then he goes on to compare it to the HD650's sound sig... I'm sort of confused... but the fact that these impress him a lot, and he seems to prefer them to the current flagship; it does make me very interested in them.

I'm anxious to hear more about his experiences with the headphone. I have a feeling it's new toy love syndrome, something that I have with whatever I buy, but eventually find flaws that bother me. If his position on these headphones stay as strong for the next few weeks... well, I'm anxious to hear more users' reviews and hear them myself!

Exactly. If I had a buck for every time I went through that...well, it would only be a fraction of what I would have saved had I never bought the products in the first place.

Most reviewers should use fewer words.

its an interesting review, and i quite like it even if its a bit messy. Mike was able to prove his points about the pre-production model, so that's always good.

To me i still believe the general emphasis through-out his 3 paged review is that its still a great competitor, yet excels beyond peoples expectations "including his own" and that the oomph in the bass was still a little on the downside, but overall crisp and clear.

Assuming prices go down. Still will be a good investment, so it seems.

*For article* - WORK IN PROGRESS -  keep that in mind, hes not quite done.

Wow.  If what Mike(Headfonia) says about the HD700 is true, Sennheiser has created what is sure to be a smash hit.  It may just be the grand headphone that I might want to try.

I'm sorry if this has been explained already, I must have missed it, but when is the expected release date?

End of March.

Oh, and these 'street prices will go down' comments are way off, I think.  If they can strongly control the HD800 price, why not the HD700?

Thanks. I certainly hope they don't go down too much since I will probably be pre-ordering a pair. L3000.gif

Doesn't Mike like everything these days?

Not quite.  Even when reviewing gear he likes, he's usually keen on reporting its faults or shortcomings.  I've never seen him react that positively to any product except the RSA Dark Star.

I guess I'll just go with HD800, its have been a while on market and super tested already AND still continues to be one of the best out there.

I can relate to that feeling of euphoria that wells up inside when someone finds a product he or she falls head-over-heels for. You want to convey the feeling to others, to find some means of communicating the thrill. Its goodly intentioned. When one is advising people on how to spend their money however, restraint is often best. I personally feel guilty when I go on a bit too emphatically about a product, because the thought of someone spending a large sum of money based on my words is, frankly, terrifying. It's something even nonprofessional reviews here need to take into account, but how much more so when you're writing for a professional online publication.

so just now I'm trying HD700 via RSA DarkStar and Denon CDP, I think DarkStar has really good synergy, the added body to mid and bass is very welcome to HD700

Compare to HD800, for me HD700 is still less detailed and less textured, but the thing that I like the most is HD700 doesn't force songs to become "extra" wide like what HD800 did. I think the soundstage is more "real", it has very good airiness feel with nice imaging.

The problem comes when I play some rock or metal songs, though I can feel the impact, but the mid/bass body somehow feel too thin, I think HD800 still has thicker mid and bass (not by much, but I can feel it).

But if your songs mainly accoustic, light jazz, or slow pop, and majority is female voice like me, I think you're gonna love this HD700, the very open and clear sound combine with good soundstage image is always great.

* Sorry for crappy quality of photos, cause it's only taken by blackberry :P *

wise words from the muppet
*btw nice little ME3 countdown you got there*

Thats why i continuously mention it in every post of mine * or at least a good majority of them made in this post * - Limiting my credit, hoping for sellers / retailers to go below the MSRP prices in hopes to even save like 100 or 200 dollars. I mean i'll be honest with you. Because i am no more than a college student, this cuts a huge gap in my pocket. And the fact i still couldn't hold out on buying myself a pair of Q701's makes it even worse.

- that and i was looking at the SHURE post and you already got your hands on some 1840's .

1000 dollars is not chump change, especially in this economy. I wish i could barter my nifty electronic gadgets to lower the price on these. Hell i don't even know how people save up, or make the amount to afford 6k setups, 3k headphones. That amount is like a perfectly nicely built used car w/ insurance money + gas, or something along those lines.

It sucks to be a starter getting into the whole audiophile business at such a young age without any stable full time job, yet still wasting hundreds on a bunch of headphones. I wish my patience and control over myself was greater than it is right now, but i'm still young and i'm sure i'll feel some regret and guilt in the end.

thanks for letting us know once again that the bass probably wont work too well on hard bass thumpers like myself.
ill stay in high hopes though since the model you tested was probably the pre-production model.
