Sennheiser HD 700: Officially Unveiled at CES 2012! - Page 124

On the cost issue...if I look around at the prices of things such as gas, food....everything but housing costs and savings interest rates are going up.  If the cost of fuel rises as people suspect it will then that will have a ripple effect, I would imagine on all consumer products and well....who knows....perhaps the price of all the Senns will be on the rise before they fall....hope not but who can tell....gas in the US is projected to be 5.00 to 10.00 usd p/gallon by the time summer rolls around(don't laugh too loud Europians-I know your prices are already horrendous!)

I look at my headphone hobby as having a happy gas saving side effect....it doesn't cost any gas to enjoy my senns!!

Peace out and come ooooon March!

Until then I'm snuggling up with my HD800s and some lovely Porcupine Tree.....hmmm...perhaps something from In Absentia will suit my mood.

Question....I read somewhere that the yoke of the hd700 is made from zinc....anyone else hear this?  Thanks in advance.

I've been listening to the HD800 out of the Leckerton UHA-6S of all things, and I'm surprised by the synergy that can be achieved with this portable amp. To be honest, I had fallen out of love with the HD800 for a while. I'd say my fondness for it is somewhat renewed, and as a result my interest in the HD700 has been renewed too.

Maybe the Leckerton is giving the HD800 some warmth and a little extra midrange body?

Wow , you speak highly of the UHA-6S, now you've got me interested :) I really want to try one now.

It's got enough power for full-sized too  ? I'm gonna have to do more research now ...

It definitely has enough power. There's a gain switch on the front, and on the higher setting it drivers the HD800 no problem (keep in mind you'll have to use an adapter for the 1/4" plug though). On the lower setting it drivers IEMs nicely without the slightest bit of hiss.

Of course, having enough power and having enough "headroom" are two different things. To my ears though the synergy between the UHA-6S and HD800 is very impressive. I can't think of a better all-in-one solution for driving the HD800 for $300.

Yeah, headphone synergy is hard to come by without going into the deeper end of amps :)

Yes, the front portion of the HD 700 yoke is made of zinc.

"The differentiation between the build quality is much bigger than say a Hifiman HE-6 to HE-500, Audeze’s LCD-2 and LCD-3, or Beyerdynamic’s DT880 to the T1. I sort of expected a nicer build quality, but hey the development process is done and there is nothing I can do about that."

I guess I'll be jumping straight to the HD800's in that case.

Exactly what I was thinking.

above comments about the unboxing -

Little disappointed reading about how its build quality probably wasn't up to its standard. But seeing more pictures, it still does look like a beauty (to me).  Its pretty much the baby HD800.

the detachable cords also doesn't seem very promising either. (2.5mm Y cord) and the adjustment band is all plastic =(

i demand a hardcore stress test!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm...what part of my post was a complaint?

I'm getting really excited about the non-ring driver.

IMHO, the HD800 exudes better build quality than just about any headphone in its price range. Saying there's a bigger difference in build between the HD700 and HD800 isn't necessarily saying the HD700 is unsatisfactorily built

Saying another company's two top-end products are closer to one another in build versus another doesn't tell me much. For instance, what is the overall build quality of that other company's products? You could have two products with lesser build quality than either the HD700 or HD800 that are closer to one another. Now I'm not saying the HE-6 is a shambling mess. It's fine. But in terms of the overall feel of the thing, no, it doesn't hold a proverbial candle to the HD800 in terms of its build my opinion.

FWIW, I've unboxed many headphones in my short time here. Those pictures look pretty convincing for a $1000 product to me. No, I can't offer anything beyond mere speculation based on looking at a few pictures (nice pictures though they are). But for me personally, I can say those pictures didn't discourage me in the least from wanting to try the HD700.

Bristol Hi-Fi Show starts tomorrow (Friday 24th Feb.) and runs until Sunday.

This is the major Hi-Fi show in the UK now.

Sennheiser UK will have the HD 700 on their stand as well as the new Grace m903 headphone amp..

So, if you are in the UK, it's your first chance to see and listen to the HD 700. L3000.gif

Oh - I will be floating round the show every day for anyone who wants to say "hi".
