Sennheiser HD 700: Officially Unveiled at CES 2012! - Page 80

Yes piano is very very hard to reproduce realistic. I was surprised by the Ultrasone Pro 900, who actually did a very good job at this.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Don't know why but this suddenly popped into my head.

Grand pianos = Open headphones

Upright pianos = Closed headphones

Digital pianos = In ear monitors

I don't know why either, its very weird.

x2....

Piano is a benchmark instrument for reproduction IMO.  Precisely due to the complexity of being stringed and percussion at the same time.  Also the dynamic range.

A complex drum kit is no easy task either.

I was curious about this myself.  I keep seeing people referring to the price as $800, but I haven't seen any place that is allowing pre-orders at that price (not that I've looked at very many places.)  Are there sellers offering them for $800?

Should lower the price to $400 and pay a rapper to wear them. The dramatic increase in sales volume would more than make up for the smaller per-unit profit and royalties. I don't think the Germans would stoop to that though, but you never know.

I honestly think I would rather pay $999 to avoid that.  Does that make me a snob?

Would you care if it did?

Lol, Ultrasone is German and that would not surprise me.

Probably not.  If I did, I probably wouldn't have admitted it in the first place.

Indeed, even Darth Vader had to resort to bounty hunter scum to hunt down Han Solo.

If Sennheiser hired Boba Fett to be a shill for the HD700, that would convince me to buy a pair.

The mighty GiacomoHoldini asks why he must pay $1000 for the HD700. Because Sennheiser is holding a thermal detonator!!!
