amp cable question

Thread Starter

So to connect my Fiio e9 & e10, I'm shopping around for a 3.5mm cable.

Aer there any noticeable differences between $10 cables?

These are the two I am looking at:

Nuforce cable: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003WREJ6Y/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?ie=UTF8&m=A235PXMX0JATIS

Fiio cable: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UCC78I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=AS9UUXZ8KC49B

Any advice on these two (or others), or does it really not matter?

Thanks

I honestly doubt it will matter, just close your eyes and point at the screen, whichever your finger is closest to, pick that cable. :p

Thanks for your suggestion....

This is what someone wrote under the Nuforce Amazon review:

"I tried the FiiO version a few weeks ago and was surprised at the degradation in sound quality. No degradation with the NuForce though."

There aren't enough reviews on Amazon, so I thought I'd ask here.

I've read in these forums that some believe cables sound different, and others don't.

Any other opinions? (otherwise I'll just go with the black cable, as it wont be as visually noticeable)

No not with that equipment, it takes really high end equipment to notice cable differences, even then it can be subtle.

Interconnects have no effect on sound.  None that has been detectible.

Save some money and buy monoprice.com cables.  Each cable is literally just a few dollars.

EMI perfromance depends on construction details you can't see - "360 degree" shield termination, higher "coverage" for RF, E field shielding, just lower shield/gnd DC resistance (more copper) for 60 Hz hum supression

many cheap cables have "pigtail" shield termination under the plastic moulding, some have only  a dozen strands of "shield" wire with maybe 10% coverage, sometimes not even braided

so yes there are real cable construction quality differences that can even have direct audible (hum) consequences, RF rejection may have indirect audio consequences depending or enviroment

but uncontrolled "subjective" "I heard it" reviews are not good a way to choose

I'd order them from blue jeans cable and call it a day. All they do is cables.  Monoprice is cheaper but I think blue jeans makes some good, quality stuff.

Interesting stuff!

1 kohm is an insanely high output impedance for a pre-amp or EQ but I digress.

+1 on this.  Buy the cable below and be done with it.
