Need Headphone Recommendation for Classics and Others While Walking

Hello,

I generally listen to a mix of all kinds music ranging from Hip hop, pop to classics. Although, I'd say I'm most sensitive to to the quality of the music when I'm listening to classics so that's my main focus. And I appreciate a clear and solid bass.

I think more than 80% of the time I'll be wearing these headphones are when I'm walking to work or at my desk in a noisy environment. So I'm looking for a pair that can reduce most of the noises but still allow me to be aware of the surroundings.

And definitely NO AMP required as I'm just going to drive it with my iPhone.

Light and comfortable to wear over a long time is a big plus.

My budget is around $200 but doesn't have to be this expensive if it gets the job done. Can anyone recommend something? Does Audio Technica PRO700MK2 fit into these lines? Any alternatives? Your help is much appreciated.

Try the Koss Porta Pro for $99 or less.  They are open, but sound awesome for the price.  They are tiny so you and others will hardly know they are on.

If those do not fit your needs try the V-Moda M80 coming in at $199.  They are sealed on-ear headphones that will still allow you to hear what is going on around you.  They have an awesome sound signature, are built like tanks, and have some basic style points.

Koss Porta Pro's are nowhere near $99, but are completely open and won't block anything out.  Which won't work at all in a noisy work environment.  And their sound quality is not equal to something you can get in the $200 range.

One of the most recommended portables is the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II, which will come in under $200, but may be slightly too good at blocking out exterior noise.

I am no longer impressed by the Portapro. I have had it for over 10 years. If you like the Portapro, for around half the price the Sportapro is almost the same thing but looks different. I have the Sportapro as well. The Portapro is around $40. Imo it is treble deficient, and the bass is not well controlled. If you want a low priced Koss headphone, the KSC75, or the KTXpro1(essentially a KSC75 but with a headband instead of the earhooks-which gives more bass) would be better choices. Those are only around $15, and have much better treble and tighter bass than the Portapro(or Sportapro).

Imo the JVC HAS650($34 on Amazon) is an excellent choice for classical music. It is closed and compact, but very comfortable. The isolation isn't huge though. it has good bass, however the bass is not overpowering. Another good portable option for classical music is the Sennheiser PX100II($43). The PX200II is a closed version of this(around $55). If you want a nice low priced compact headphone, then look at the JVC HAS160($10-15). I like the sound on this better than the Portapro! Its bass isn't as strong, and it doesn't have the detail of the HAS650. I think you would be very happy with the HAS650, however you might be pleased enough with the HAS160. For around $15 though, I like the HAS160 much more than the KSC75 or KTXpro1.
