Denon AH-D7000 v Audio Technica ATH W5000

I have decided I am going to invest in a long term buy to use at home with my hi-fi (Linn Classik/Majik 2100 Power Amp) to listen to a variety of music but mainly classic rock.

Using the maxim 'Buy well, buy once' I like the look and reviews of the following closed back 'phones (I want closed back - already have some Grado SR80i's)

  • Denon AH-D7000
  • Audio Technica ATH W5000

and wondered if anyone was able to provide me with either a direct comparison or a view on which are the better cans.  I do like a full sound with excellent bass but not so much that it blows out everything else.

Anyone any views?

Check out how flat these upper level Audio Technica ATH W5000 phones are until the 10 and 16db dips at 3.15K and 6.3K respectively. Good stuff but not quite good enough.
