I will test this out and report back.  Rihanna's Cheers used to make me cringe a bit, but it doesn't any longer.  I'll test out Whitney Houston.

Burn in will help this out a bit...  Lots of burn in though.

@tinyman392

If you look on the side that would be facing out(when wearing), there is a thin white drilled line going from the etched out driver housing exiting just before the lip for ear tips. It is internal and on both of mine in the same place. It is not the screw from face plate. But another drilled out section.  But its def. there, its extremely small. Or I'm just crazy. ;)

I did see that at first, but couldn't tell what it was (I was looking inside the nozzle).  It looked like an extraneous piece of plastic to me.  I guess it is a port :p

If your enjoying the mids now you'll be in for a treat with time, as for treble well, a lil sparkle comes in but nothing notable!

Actually, I just listened to it :p  I hear lots of energy in her voice, but nothing enough to call shouty (Again, reference to Etymotic being more shouty in other songs).  Either the Etymotics have immunized my ears from shoutyness, or these burned in perfectly.  Or, it's a mix of both.  I do have 200+ hours on both of my Etymotics (listening; not just burn in).  My HF5 has 400+ on it :p  These IEMs are catching up listening hour wise though :)

NOTE: I was only have the 2000 remaster version of the song in decent quality :(

Wow. I don't know what to say. If there was ever a song (singer) that was shouty on the ASG-1, it would be Whitney Houston. That song and a couple of her others are almost painful to listen to. I asked you to listen to it as a test. I've concluded one of two things:

1) I will never buy an Etymotic iem

2) Your ears have been exposed to radioactive waste that has mutated them and caused them to become desensitized to certain frequencies.

Etymotics are more tolerable due to the instrumentals put more level, but shoutyness is still there and in greater level than the ASG at times, but at times, it's the exact opposite (Etymotic puts their pleateue in a slightly different spot than the ASG-1 (slightly higher).  When I say more shouty in other songs, it's slightly more (you wouldn't be able to tell unless you ABed).

The second theory does make sense.  I vividly remember wallowing nuclear waste as a kid, maybe that could be it :p

Just started using the filters this morning so here are my first impressions (note that this might change as I accidentally pushed the filters in a bit too much so I'll have to wait until I get home so I can fix it)

  • Mids are more in line with the bass and sound better with most mainstream genres (Hip Hop and Pop in particular)
  • Mids still sound radio-like sometimes
  • Smaller soundstage
  • Treble still needs a boost from EQ for most songs
  • My EQ generally looks more like (_________-----) instead of (-----______-----)
  • Sometimes I might use a mini U/V EQ to lengthen the soundstage

I find the filter does help but the fact that I still need to EQ a bit to get my desired sound is bit of a turnoff so I do hope for a little more change with the final product but overall it does help

***Note that I may change this after I get the positioning of the filters right so this is nowhere near final***

@jrkong
I'm not exactly sure why you expected filters to increase treble. They could only do so relatively.

I never said I expected a treble increase, I just said that I still need to EQ the treble to get my desired sound. It was expected but remember I'm just writing what I hear. Besides there might be those who expect otherwise.

Do the filters increase highs, or filter some out.  I've been hearing that they filter some out, so I was curious about that :p
