Nice impressions Shane.

The bass comparison kind of surprised me also, at least in regard to the HF2. In what way did the HF2 have more bass quantity than the ASG-1?

My only BA has been the B2 (like the DBA-02) and while it was actually pretty punchy (from obviously fallible memory), the sheer weight of note and heft of impact was nowhere near what the ASG-1 can put out. It's like you can literally feel the size of the ASG-1 driver when the low end response calls for it.

B2s have slightly more bass than HFs.  The thing is that the HFs had overall more quantity if you listen to them one on one. The ASGs dig so much deeper than the HFs though.

ASG-1 without and with filters

I thought it best to take my pre-filter impressions an overlay my post-filter impressions for compare and contrast.

....

All in all I find the filters to be a significant improvement over the unfiltered version, even with the hit the treble takes.  Without the filters I would become fatigued from the ‘shouty’ mid and surround presentation.  Now I find I can listen to them for long periods of time without fatigue.  The filtered version of the ASG-1 definitely gives me reason to own these again.

Thanks for your assessment  mate.

Do you think the same effect as the filter can be achieved by using a parametric equalizer like the 18 band one in Foobar & if so to what degree of similarity ?

I would like to gage the improvement the filter can bring before getting over excited. I'm already having to EQU up highs to introduce little sparkle for trance music & as the filter attenuates the sparkle further I'm left wondering if it is necessary for me. On the other hand if it provides more than what EQU'ing can do alone than I'm excited.

Also is this the final product you have in your hands ? Can any more tweaks be expected from your feedback to Dale ?

Photo's would be great

Thanks for the impressions on the filtered version, Flysweep should have it to post his vs the filtered within the next couple weeks.

@shotgunshane

Thanks for the impressions!

I'll have the filtered ones soon and wonder if I'll hear them the same way. Kind of sad to hear about the sparkle up top but I'll see soon enough.

Would you say they are less unique with the filters?

Maybe someone can send them to innerfidelity to graph. That would make it easier to EQ to taste. Besides it would be just plain interesting to see the unfiltered graph.

I'd love to see that (for the interesting factor). I'm still hoping someone graphs the GR07 too, but I'm not holding my breath.

Got thembigsmile_face.gif.

I had lower my expectations of the sonic qualities after perusing this thread!

Two things to get out the way first, the ASG-1 tips that come packaged sucks big time, not thick enough! I am using JVC ones that came with the 51. These earphones need an amp....good quality at that! An amp that can grip and control those dynamic drivers.

My own problems is that none of my cables fit, connection wisefrown.gif. I am stuck with the stock cable!.......aesthetically the stock cable is gorgeouswink_face.gif. I think it is strangling the sound though, as I managed to get the left channel connected with my silver cable and the sound that came across was much clearer and cleaner. Trying to figure out how to solve this little problem, as I had hope that my cables will all be interchangeable.blink.gif

Now that is out of the waydeadhorse.gif

I am listening and burning in with the DX100 and I am getting potentially a very good sound. None of this shouty mids mentioned on this thread. The mids are more prominent say than a W4, but no way as pushed forward as the SE535ltd out of the box and on stock cable. I hated the 535 out of the box.

Clarity is lacking but I expect that should improve with burn in as it did with my dynamic bass driver Universal CIEM. I am very happy with the soundstaging and imaging, even out of the box, it expands beyond the head. Everything within the soundstage is well proportioned against each other.  It is not punchy enough yet but again I think it should improve. The ASG-1 will be on continous play now on one of my portable set ups.

Finally, I would like to add that the ASG-1 needs a top class source to even realizing it's potential and amp. I listened with a Cowon D2+ and Cowon X7 briefly and yes the mids are very forward and the bass was really dragging behind but I think it is a lack of control from the amplifying section of those players. I listened again only briefly DX100 > Triad > ASG-1 and I can really sense the potential and appreciate this IEM. Looking forward to some serious listening after 500 hrs.

The only analogy that I can support my views regarding better source and amp is.......Say, trying to drive a pair of Wilson Sasha s with a generic HT amp or something similar, you get sound but it sucks big time!!

All in all, the ASG-1 exceeded my expectations of them by quite a fair margin!

Hi-Rez 24/192 -  5348kps, pretty good combination, the DX 100 is very neutral!!!

Interesting read spkrs01 on the ASG-1, regarding your initial impressions. Looking forward to a longer listen impression.

In the medical field neutral is called having a flat line.
