Aurisonics Impressions and Reviews - Page 14

Hmm.....so the universal fit ASG-1s do not have ambient tuning ports. I need to hear my wife talking :p

I do not really want to spend ~250 usd more to get AS-1a, because I already have Westone ES3Xs.

Btw, Westone custom cable fit on these Aurisonics?

Good! Do yourself and us a favor: Wait a week of listening (and some burn-in) before you make a judgement. Don't worry about initial impressions/reactions, just sit with them a bit. You'll come to a more well-rounded, accurate sense of what you're hearing. After that, share it with us.

17 hours and counting! I hope USPS does not delay, I'm home tomorrow. I'll give them a quick listen and then let them rotate between brown and pink noise until I can't take it anymore and just start listening.

They have arrived!  A quick initial impression, what a roller coaster so far!  Extreme excitement opening them up, then utter disappointment within the first 45 seconds, played with the few tips I had at the house and made a mild improvement over the stock tips, threw on a pair of Complys and resolved fit and seal issues but added the usual Comply treble roll off.  I knew that these were not intended for deep insertion so I flipped the Complys backward and I'm hearing potential.  Like ShotgunShane, I felt they sounded like a transistor radio initially, but even after 30min of listening I'm starting to hear them change.  I can't fairly say anything yet but prior to any breakin, these have a signature unlike anything I have owned or heard.  I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing yet.  Out of my current inventory, I would say right now they sound closest to the ATH-ES7.  Almost all of my silicone tips are at my desk at work so I really don't have much to experiment with.  The fit is acceptable but not nearly as good as I hoped.  They don't quite tuck into my ear as they are supposed to, I feel the first bend in my canal is a little to sharp for their design but  maybe some different tips will remedy that.

I'm going to put them down, let them run with a mix of pink and brown noise until I head to work tomorrow morning.  Then it's time for the subway commute and see how well they isolate.  My pre-breakin impression would lean toward the flat and dry side or even a bit of a bell curve.  My personal preference is for more V-Shaped (TF10 and ATH-ES7) or colored headphones (ATH-ESW9 and IE8) so this is going to be an interesting adventure.

Not so "universal fit" so far...

And since I have quite a bend in my right ear canal, I fear that the nozzle will bang against it.

I was about to order, but I may wait for a few more people to comment on fit/comfort. ph34r.gif

And if the sound is worth it, maybe will I jump to the custom ones.

I was ready to jump on this, but rumors of a "dry" sound can count me right out.

Well.....I usually don't like to comment right out of the box with dynamics............but, lucky me, the stock medium tips fit just right in my ears, good seal and comfort.  Listened for a while and switched to my Ts500 Comply tips in medium.....and wow, I'm really going to like this Aurisonics ASG-1 universal.....perfect fit!

After having the Westone 4R last week, and returning them for a poor fit, I am finding the ASG-1 with much the same sound sig as the W4R.....but better.  I asked Matt before purchase, and he said they could use a little EQ on the low end.  So, I have my Parametric Equalizer set to 31hz, Q=.7, Gain=+3db, and I really like the bass.....clear, tight, one note bass, not the boomy bass that I heard in the W4R, which is boosted +5.5 db around 125hz.  I think the highs are a little better than the W4R as well....but that may be subject to change with some "burn in".  IMO, very good initial sound.....will know more with 50hrs on them.  Also, I use subtle crossfeed settings, that add some 3D spacial effects, I have been using it sparingly with my other IEM's, and like it very much.  I would say these are going to be better than I had anticipated!

oh my. makes me excited hoping i'd get mine soon! hope to hear more impressions soon. i got the AS-1b though. how's the sub bass like btw?

Well this confirms my suspicions as I have never considered the W4 as even a potential candidate for purchase. From what I have read it clearly lacks bass for my taste and is too neutral.

Sub bass is there.....but probably not what you would expect.  I followed Matt's suggestion to EQ the low end, my settings are in my post above.....and I really like the sub bass/bass.....very realistic, not over done....not boomy!  Take my impressions with a grain of salt....this is my opinion, and others may not hear them this way!

Just like to point out that it's a bit silly how many people are jumping to immediate conclusions of "these are/aren't for me!" based on two or three incredibly short sets of comments on these.  Keep in mind:

1.) They are dynamic drivers.  You might need to wait HUNDREDS of hours before anyone who has received them has heard a mature sound yet.  Let them break-in!

2.) Some are reporting fit issues.  Give them time to figure them out and get used to the different fit!  I absolutely hated wearing headphones with over-ear cables at first, but since I've gotten used to them, I'll never go back.

I'd like to thank the few that have received them for their impressions, which have been reasonable and qualified.

ah alright. no problem! happy that you're willing to answer my query.

it's a dynamic driver afterall. the sound will definitely change. i came from the the likes of atrio & ie8 so i'm hoping the signature would be similar with more prominent vocals and controlled bass.

When you have ASG-1 fully inserted and quiet music playing, can you hear someone talking loud to you? Owners please comment. Thanks.

I actually do NOT want complete isolation as total isolation is what my Westone ES3Xs are for.
