Hmm...I don't find guitars to be that forward, but then I'm not listening to Metallica.

The good: Drums and guitars sound great. Drums sound very clear and distinct with excellent separation. The guitars are very forward with just the right amount of crunch. Very detailed and grabbed my attention the most.

The bad: Vocals and highs sound unnatural. Very unnatural. The tone of Hetfield's voice is completely off the mark. The weird thing is that there a veil specifically over the vocals. The highs lack energy, brightness, sparkle, and extension. The absolute strangest sounding highs I've ever heard.

For me, it's a mixed bag of good and bad.

Agreed!

EQ in the highs and a little in the bass definitely helps fill out the sound for me. Vocals are still kind of pushy though. These things are really impressive on the whole though, and I can't wait to hear what they sound like with filters and, some day, the second driver; I have hopes that it will really fill out the sound :)

Maybe upping the highs will give it that life you crave?
I did that for my MG7's and it changed it dramatically from being "hollow" sounding to "full"

Just got the ASG-1s in the mail today. I also heard the strong vocals right away. It wasn't too bad, but sill evident. Great clean highs and lows. I am not experiencing any sort of soundstage behind my ears but right in the middle of my head.  I was expecting more bass from these. They have only been burned in for 10 hours, but still have a good tone to the bass. Just not as much as I thought running them on a Fiio E11 with full bass boost. Tried all kinds of tips but went back to the medium clear tips that came with a set of philips SHE3580.

I have a pair of RE262s, and I found a pack of black replacement filters in with the eartips and put them over the front of the nozzle of the ASG-1(perfect fit). This helped cut down on the "shouty" mids. But I can't really A/B the difference so I am not sure what else I might be missing. Maybe someone else can try this out.

Overall, I am very satisfied with them and will continue to form opinions on the sound signature.

Dsnuts I A/B'd with the 8320. You're right, there are some distinct advantages to the 8320, namely the more forward presentation and more liquid mids. They really are an absolutely outstanding buy...they easily sound like $50+ earphones to me, respectable dynamics and a fairly natural sound. I actually prefer the overall tonal balance on the 8320, if I'm honest; the ASG-1 is more neutral than my preferred sig. However the ASG-1 has some pretty stellar dynamics, especially with really fast sounds that have a "zip" or some kind of quick impact. Also great bass presentation for deep house, powerful but more of an ambience power, like being on a big dance floor with big speakers hung up high pumping deep bass all around you, rather than standing in front of the stage. It has a true surround sound, the position seems somewhat scattered at times but maybe I'm just not used to it yet. Its soundstage depth, height and separation absolutely destroy the 8320, but I suppose that is to be expected.

I have developed a full-on love-hate relationship with these IEMs. Sometimes they absolutely captivate me with their soundstage, fullness, dynamics, and just all around live-feel, but with tracks that don't highlight these strengths, I'm kind of left flat.

For contrast, my girlfriend is actually a classically trained vocalist, and she rather likes the ASG-1, even with the more forward, "shouty" vocals. She says it reminds her of the recording headphones she used when in the studio with one of her old producers.

Also she confirmed what I have suspected, which is that using the EQ on poweramp increases compression ratio. This is probably why I keep going back to the unequalized sound, even though the vocal presentation isn't my style.

I hear music the same way. Then I used them to watch Inception and felt like people were shooting me in the back of the head.

This thread... I was going to have a nice relaxing morning. Now I'm gonna spend it digging up a couple of the early Metallica CD's and ripping them to listen to on the way to work.

I can report though that Dave Mustaine sounds no different than my brain remembers on the ASG-1. Maybe I'll dig up Appetite for Destruction too.

Wouldn't it be like playing with dolby 7.1?

I have ordered a pair of ASG-1 and it should be on the Fridays shipment out hopefully? So should receive sometime next week. I am in Hong Kong.

Getting very excited as I am having quite a few cables being made up to try with these? From what I have read, I am sure a silver cable will be the way to go......Anyone tried 3rd party cables yet???

I would give it 2weeks to arrive.

Took 2 weeks for someone to receive theirs from US to UK, after placing their order

3rd party cables:
Someone mentioned they put thier TF10's cable son it.

They much preferred the sound.

I suggest you listen tot hem, give them 50hrs burn-in then think about re-cabling if needs be.

with any dynamics i recommend at least 20hrs, and for more "full" burn-in 50hrs.

After 50hrs if they still don't suit you, then they probably never will - that's my rule of thumb, others say 200hrs/100hrs

Wouldn't it be better to order from Cherns, the distributor in Singapore?

For me, I either buy direct from the manufacturer or locally.

For example I have refused around 5 times to buy the K3003 from Stereo in Singapore and today confirm purchase locally for a delivery next month time.
