Aurisonics Impressions and Reviews - Page 77

Mine arrived today.

To all those in Europe, here is a breakdown of waiting time and charges:

15.02.12 - Trigger pulled

18.02.12 - Shipped

20.02.12 - Departed USA

21.02.12 - Arrived in UK

22.02.12 - Awaited Customs clearance

24.02.12 - Awaited Customs charging

27.02.12 - Revised Customs charge to be paid (£36 / 42 Euros)

28.02.12 - Customs charge paid

29.02.12 - Delivered

That's a total of 14 days from trigger pull to delivery. Not bad at all, if you ask me.

I love my GR07s - they're a truly excellent phone which have never lost their magic. To me however, the ASG-1s are better. Much better. And this is before burn in.

Very initial impressions (10 mins listening time and 30 mins tip rolling):

I can def see why some have been disappointed initially. The stock tips provide a good seal, appear to give adequate depth, but are sonically useless, at least to my canals. See tip thread on what I have tried, and what has worked best. What I will say may echo the thoughts of several others, and that's that different tips make a night and day difference. The ASG-1 went from something that I disliked, even with a perfect seal, to something that I am in awe of.

Damn these have good separation, layering and imaging, far beyond anything I've previous experienced. Detail? Oh there's detail. Lots of it.  They're surprisingly mid-centric, but with bass enough to pummel you politely about the temples. Such impact. Clarity, again, goes far beyond my previous phones, as does comfort, cable and build quality.

I can't stress enough how much a difference after market tips make. I tried about 10 different types before I found the perfect match (again, see tip thread).

I won't say much more until tomorrow, when I've had some more listening time.

Lastly, I'd like to assure Archy and Gilly that these take psytrance to a whole new level.

That's pretty good...

However I KNEW IT! with the customs.

And calculated almost exactly that figure.

So glad i didn't go via the direct route, and kept my head clear from my wants and impatient desires.

I do have to state one thing:

Is this the next Shure SE535?

As in, the shure's have a lot of mids, very forward too - but lack bass A LOT due to BA's.

So the ASG-1's have bass (apparently), have forward mids, and a very life image.

More so, have kick-ass removable cables, and are cheaper than the se535's

is it fair to say these are "shurely" a se535 killer?

I liked the se535's but for 2 things:

-Hefty price tag

-Little to no bass impact

Seems like the ASG-1's got those 2 covered in a nut-shell.

I'll be the "final" judge of that, for my own sake - but from what i can read and go on - these are my impressions on what you guys have said/reviewed

One last thing I forgot to say:

Very much hyped on head-fi.

Se535's and 530's were very hyped IMO - now the ASG-1's are (around 30-40k views in around 1 month?) -> this isn't a bad thing - just an observation.

If the ASG-1 sounds like it's for you based on the descriptions here, then buy it.  If not, don't, and maybe someday if/when the ASG-2 is released, then you can buy it.  Or just sell the ASG-1 and get the ASG-2 when it comes out.

Just my 2 cents.

Quote from Dale in regards to the AS2:

"Once you have heard that combo you are done..."

Sounds promising :D

This was from an email exchange I had with him

Well, name a IEM that is universally (no pun intended) loved in this community? And the more top tier it's considered the more polarizing it becomes. Although I do think "polarizing" is a bit strong of a word to use here. Bottom line, everyone has his or her favorite sound signature. Some like similar signatures, but we all have that "thing" that grabs us or it doesn't. It's not the end of the world because a few say they don't like the sound signature. All I would ask - as an staunch admirer of the sound signature - is that one really give IEMs a good burn-in and spend a week or two listening before making a final decision. I don't believe one can tell in just a couple of quick listens how good an IEM of this caliber really is. Yes, you might be able to tell if it's within your  sound signature or not, but you can't tell how good the IEM is (or not).
