I'm really wondering what I can do with my Sony MDR-V6s. I really do like the sound signature, it's perfect for me, and I'll probably be looking eventually (not anytime soon) to get another Sony in this family to have a similar sound signature with better quality.
But, for now, I want to improve on these, and to modding it seems to be the way to do it.
So BESIDES the standard "repadding" of the V6s (which seems to be the most popular mod), what else can I do? I dont really wanna repad as I love the isolation I have right now, and comfort isnt really that big of a problem at the moment.
So what else can I do? Im not really into the whole "cabling" thing, heck, I dont even own a soldering iron (yes I do know how to solder though), so I'm not sure I wanna go down that road, plus these are my favourite pair of phones and I dont really wanna damage them by them being my guinea pig for my first recabling job. maybe I'll get some crappy headphones later on when I get more into modding to do that (if I do get into it).
I already have an E6 amp and its quite fine, it adds its power and volume, and I dont really use the extra EQs on it, the red one I never used, the blue one is okay for classical (which I never listen to really), and the red and blue one I dont use whatsoever. I dont even know what its for actually.
I have looked at DACs and I might get one, so dont suggest me one please :)
What else can I do in terms of accesories/modding/additions?
Oh-- before I forget, one thing that has really piqued my interest is a "3.5mm Impedance Adapter"... Im not sure EXACTLY what I'm talking about, so here, lemme show ya an old example : http://www.head-fi.org/t/503401/sold-3-5mm-impedance-adapter-68ohm-15-shipped-conus That. To my understanding (which is pretty limited), impedance is the electrical resistance measured in ohms against an electrical current, and part of what determines how efficiently a device could be run; the higher the ohms the more efficient it could be run, while the lower the ohms, while the lower the ohms, the more load the device is. Right? (Im no electrician, so it's probably NOT right xD) Now, to my understanding, say i want my headphones to be run louder from my iPhone (which I do coincidentally), and the V6 is a 63 ohm headphone, but what if i want it to be louder? Could I just get 100 ohm adapter (idk if it exists, I'm just pulling stuff outta my ass now) and change my 63 Ohm headphones into 100 Ohm headphones? Effectively allowing my iPhone to run my V6s at a louder volume with just an adapter? Someone explain this to me please, these look interesting to me :)
Edit: So I do a lil more searching and find its actually the exact opposite, that the higher ohms it actually requiers more power xD Wow when it comes to this area of headphones I'm as blind as a bat, but that still confuses me... How come car audio systems have to have like 1000 Terrawatt amps (a "little" exaggerated) to power the subwoofers that rarely go above 5 ohms? :S Wouldnt it be easy to run those?
