FiiO E7 Problems/Question

Hey I got my FiiO E7 today. Have some questions that may be problems... I don't know.

1. I am using a 2006 macbook running snow leopard. When I go into system profiler it recognizes the DAC in USB, it says USB Audio DAC. So thats good. When I plug my headphones into it and play music it comes out of the speaker. So I am like "Ok, I guess it needs the audio cable as well" Is that correct? you need the audio cable and the USB cable to get the DAC and the AMP?

2. Theres a constant static noise in the background that is really annoying. Is this normal? Any fixes?

Thanks.

Alright I unplugged the USB cable and the static is gone, and the sound improved a ton lol. Now I just need to know my 1st question.... By the way, I got my E7 Used in box, but the seller forgot to include the USB cable, he is mailing it today. I was using a micro USB to USB cable that came with a garmin Gps. That could be the problem, I dont know.

Jeez lol. I just need to know if you need the USB cable AND the interconnect 3.5m cable to be connected at the same time, so I know that my E7 or my computer is messed up or not....

I don't know if the cable was the problem, but I do know that it can be picky about having the software, like iTunes for example, open before you plug in the amp to the USB. Maybe that is your problem?

oh, and mine has never had static in the background. Could be the cable, not seated properly?

Well can you tell me if you are supposed to use both the USb and the interconnect cable at the same time? I tried closing itunes before I plugged it in, but the sound still comes out the speaker when only the USB cable is plugged in.

Tried lots of things, but always static.

I only use one cable to connect to my pc. It's a micro usb to USB cable. That should be all you need.

The static doesn't sound good though. Sounds like the driver installed from what you described above so maybe the device is bad. I bought mine new on Amazon and have had no problems at all. I think I have had it about a year or so.

Try it on another PC and see if you get the same static. Of course, try another USB cable as well. Plugging the E7 into a Mac will turn E7 into an external soundcard. Normally E7 will take over he output. You might want to check your mac setting and see if E7 is selected as the output device.

I bought it slightly used from a guy here on head fi. He forgot the USB cable as I said, and is mailing it today. I'll see if its any better. Meanwhile, I am gonna try some other mini usb cables I have. I will also see if it works with just the USB cable on a windows PC, and if I get static then. If it does work, I still cant use it on my macbook, so I will probably sell it again and get the E11.

Thank you so much! I just had to go into sound settings and select the DAC. Testing static now.

No static. I guess having both cords plugged in causes the static. It works perfectly now, and my headphones are sounding much better too!! Thanks! Now back to :)ing
