Thoughts between these two DACs

Thread Starter

So I have been strongly considering recently picking up the Schiit Bifrost.  It would match my Lyr, and seems to have a decent value factor, just like all of Schiits products that I've used.  However there is available locally for a bargain price a used Lavry DA10.  What I'm curious about is the sound quality differences of the two.  I don't really need the USB of the Bifrost, nor do I need the balanced of the DA10.  However I may someday look into having a balanced rig.

I guess what I'm wanting to know is which would you choose of the two, and for what reason.  Also is there anyone with experience with them both?  Thanks in advance.

DA10, mainly because I trust Dan Lavry as a designer while I don;t have any real opinion on the Schitt guys.

Seriously Dan Lavry is nearly a bible when digital audio is concerned and his gear is used in some of the most prestigious studios in the world.

depends on the deal.  DA10 is old but well respected.  Schitt bifrost you can get without the usb for $100 cheaper.  So I'd imagine the DA10 will be more expensive.  I would be surprised if the DA10 were any better, to be honest. Dac technology has improved so much in the last 2-3 years that many $2500+ components are getting bettered by new sub-$1000 components these days.  Peachtree's DacIT is also a great buy at $450, and computer audiophile's founder just rated it his lowest priced recommended component.
